POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Professional Accountant I to join our team of professionals.
Duties include:
- Manages the preparation of general ledger entries, guaranteeing the accuracy and prompt finalization of financial outcomes for month-end closing. Supports the integration of budget figures into the financial system.
- Provides supporting documentation for financial and other regulatory reporting requirements, such as tax reporting, annual filings and audits, while ensuring deadlines are met. (i.e. 1099, 990)
- Interacts with other departments as needed for job functionality.
- Handles sensitive cardholder information and/or processes credit cards, cash transactions, and wire transfers, and provides related reporting.
- Assists with supplier orders as needed, and assists with the preparation of billing invoices.
- Prepares deposits reports, monthly bank reconciliations and other balance sheet account reconciliations and compiles all supporting documentation for respective balances in balance sheet accounts. Maintains and updates balance sheet support schedules.
- Assists with the development of financial analysis and report design for operational and forecasting initiatives.
- Responsible for managing assigned Accounts Payable processes; which involves organizing and maintaining relevant documentation, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions in the financial system, verifying the correctness and proper allocation of vendor bills. Also includes monitoring unresolved bills and suggesting necessary adjustments for unrecorded liabilities. Oversees the status of issued payments and adheres to established follow-up protocols as required.
- Provides support in evaluating and handling vendor agreements. Conducts assessments of supplier expenses. Keeps track of agreement information.
- Ensures deadlines for month-end close and financial reporting requirements are met and all accounting and reporting activities are performed in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Assists with the delivery of metrics and key indicator packages.
- Records and tracks inventory.
- Assists with the design of financial spreadsheets used for forecasting, budget, analysis, and reporting.
- Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related business field to include a minimum of 6 credits in Accounting; OR four (4) years of appropriate experience to include one (1) year of accounting-related experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Healthcare experience preferred.
PeopleSoft (PS) general ledger, and PS Query Manager and Business Intelligence experience is a plus.
Ability to demonstrate advanced experience with Microsoft Excel such as ability to create and manipulate Pivot Tables, Vlookups and other "function" related formulas.
