ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND:
Founded in 1992, After-School All-Stars is a national non-profit organization which provides free, daily afterschool programs to more than 140,000 children in need at 725 school and community sites in 19 chapters across the U.S. Our goals for our All-Stars are the same we have for our own children: to be healthy and active, to graduate high school and go on to college, to find a job that they love and to give back to their communities. We achieve this by identifying and fueling our students' individual passions, tying their interests to tailored academic support, enrichment and health and fitness programming.
A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY:
The Senior Finance Manager will work as part of a team to ensure the efficient and effective running of the ASAS day-to-day activities and work collaboratively to ensure the compliance of all State, Federal and Local government grants. This position will report to the Controller.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Finance
- Responsible for a high-level chapter portfolio, with diverse funding streams and reporting requirements.
- Prepare and submit invoices for reimbursement in accordance with government and private funder requirements.
- Oversee all financial matters for assigned shared chapter(s).
- Lead monthly financial review meetings with assigned chapter(s).
- Review OTPS submissions by chapter staff to confirm correct account & grant coding.
- Assist organizational teams with budget creation and quarterly reviews.
- Oversee payroll allocations on federal, local, and state grants and work with HR to highlight and correct grant payroll allocation discrepancies as related to assigned chapter(s).
- Perform Financial Edge data entry & quality information management for financial grant compliance.
Accounting
- Ensure appropriate grant documentation is prepared & maintained to support reporting & annual audits.
- Support with accounting tasks that may include but are not limited to journal entries, account reconciliations, reclasses, posting transactions into Financial Edge, etc.
- Support Controller and auditing firms during annual Audit/990 questions & documentation needed for assigned chapter(s).
- Assist Controller and other Finance staff with month-end closing process.
- Understanding of AR process and reconciliation of accounts.
Team Collaboration
- Make recommendations for systems and process improvements that align with GAAP standards.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze and advise on existing, new, and pending funding.
- Maintain positive working communication with all organizational teams i.e. Systems, Programs, Development, HR.
- Ability to create strong partnership and collaboration with assigned chapter(s).
- Support and/or collaborate on all other tasks as assigned.

- At least 5 years of progressive non-profit accounting and finance experience.
- Experience preparing high-level grant reimbursements, navigating different government platforms.
- Demonstrated experience of meeting deadlines and objectives.
- A dedicated team player that can excel at complex tasks.
- At least 3 years of Blackbaud Financial Edge.
- Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance, required.
- Experience with nonprofit audits preferred.
- Takes pride in being detail oriented.
- Works well within team and across departments.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
This is a full-time exempt position with a starting salary of $85,000-$95,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual candidate. This role is based in Los Angeles, CA.
