Immediate need for a Steel Estimator. Pay is $55k-90k.
Key Responsibilities
- Estimate Preparation:
- Review and interpret architectural and structural blueprints, along with project documents.
- Calculate quantities of steel materials required, including beams, columns, braces, decking, and miscellaneous steel components.
- Identify labor, equipment, and subcontractor needs for steel fabrication, delivery, and erection.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Bid Development:
- Analyze project scopes and client requirements to develop competitive bids.
- Solicit and evaluate supplier quotes for steel materials, components, and subcontracted services.
- Collaborate with project managers and engineers to confirm project specifics.
- Ensure all estimates comply with industry standards and building codes.
- Budgeting and Cost Control:
- Work with project teams to develop cost budgets for awarded projects.
- Monitor project budgets to ensure work is completed within financial constraints.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and internal teams to clarify project requirements and resolve discrepancies.
- Present estimates and proposals to clients and stakeholders.
- Maintain relationships with suppliers, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks in project estimates, including material availability, lead times, and price fluctuations.
- Develop contingency plans to mitigate identified risks.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience as an estimator in the steel industry or construction sector.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required).
- Strong knowledge of steel fabrication and erection processes, materials, and standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Proficiency in estimating software (PlanSwift, Bluebeam preferred) and MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Knowledge of relevant building codes and industry regulations.
- Familiarity with construction project management.
