HJH Investments is seeking a Director of Property Accounting as a full-time addition to our team. The Director of Property Accounting will oversee all accounting functions related to the company’s commercial real estate portfolio. This position is responsible for managing the property accounting team, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations and standards. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in property accounting, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of the commercial real estate industry.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant accounting standards.
- Review and approve financial reports for accuracy and completeness.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting process for all properties.
- Monitor and analyze budget variances, providing insights and recommendations.
- Develop and maintain long-term financial forecasts.
Team Management:
- Manage and mentor the property accounting team.
- Assign tasks, set goals, and evaluate performance.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
Accounts Payable/Receivable:
- Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
- Manage tenant billing and collections.
Property Management Support:
- Collaborate with property managers to provide financial support and analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of operating expense reconciliations.
- Ensure proper accounting treatment of property transactions.
Compliance and Controls:
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with external auditors during audits and reviews.
Systems and Process Improvement:
- Evaluate and enhance accounting systems and processes.
- Implement best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay updated on industry trends and technological advancements.
Strategic Planning:
- Participate in strategic planning and decision-making processes.
- Provide financial analysis to support business development initiatives.
- Assist in due diligence for acquisitions and dispositions.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management role within the commercial real estate industry.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Is an excellent collaborator and communicator, both written and verbal.
- Is self-disciplined and exercises good judgment.
- Is a multi-tasker who can drive results while maintaining positive working relationships.
- Is proactive in problem-solving, taking on new projects and designing better processes.
- Is motivated with a desire to learn and grow within this role and the organization.

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $110,000 - $140,000 plus bonuses.
