Job Title: Senior Tax Analyst - Indirect Taxes

Position Summary: The Senior Tax Analyst will report directly to the Director of Tax and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of indirect taxes, including sales & use taxes, property taxes, and excise taxes. This role demands a highly detail-oriented professional with a strong background in tax compliance and an ability to handle multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Indirect Tax Compliance:
- Prepare and file U.S. sales/use tax returns, property tax returns, excise tax returns, and other miscellaneous business filings in various state and local taxing jurisdictions.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant tax regulations and deadlines.
- Research and Analysis:
- Assist the Director of Tax in researching applicable indirect tax laws, credits, and incentives to ensure optimal tax strategies.
- Analyze tax-related data to provide insights and recommendations for tax-saving opportunities and compliance improvements.
- Issue Resolution:
- Address and resolve tax notices and correspondence from state and local governments in a timely manner.
- Respond to customer inquiries regarding sales tax billing and exemption certificates, providing clear and accurate information.
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare month-end indirect tax journal entries and perform account reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Monitor and review indirect tax-related transactions to ensure proper accounting and reporting.
- Audit Support:
- Assist the Director of Tax with sales/use tax audits, including preparing and analyzing responses to document requests and other audit correspondence.
- Support the preparation and filing of Voluntary Disclosure Agreements (VDAs) as necessary.
- Tax Software Management:
- Contribute to the implementation, maintenance, and accuracy of in-house sales tax software to enhance tax reporting and compliance.
- Collaborate with the tax team to ensure effective use and functionality of tax software tools.
- Process Improvement:
- Update and refine processes for collecting and managing sales tax exemption certificates to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in indirect tax management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or other relevant certifications are highly preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in indirect tax compliance, with a focus on sales/use taxes, property taxes, and excise taxes.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience with tax software and ERP systems; familiarity with [specific tax software or ERP system used by the company] is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, acquisition-focused environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
