Care Synergy has an immediate opening for a Controller.
Status: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-5
Annual Pay Range: $157,000 - $185,000 (In addition eligible to participate in bonus incentive plans)
Mileage and Expense Reimbursement: Sixty-two and a half cents per mile – one of the highest in the industry!

Care Synergy is a Colorado not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation under 501(c)(3) of the Code under Section 509(a)(3) based on the authority concerning a parent entity that provides management services as a supporting organization to one or more supported organizations.
Care Synergy is a mission driven, values based not-for-profit organization made up of preeminent not-for-profit hospice and palliative care organizations serving those in need along the Front Range.
Care Synergy’s organizing principles include sustainability, strategic positioning, growth, maximizing quality care and patient/family outcomes, maximizing economies and efficiencies, as well as improving financial performance.
On a stand-alone basis, Care Synergy provides mission support and operating activities, which principally include; Finance and Accounting, Information Technology and Systems, Quality and Compliance, Human Resources, Risk Management, Contracting and Credentialing, Group Purchasing and other mission support services.
Care Synergy operates as a holding company, providing governance, management and mission support services, strategic and operational oversight for its Affiliate organizations.
Care Synergy Affiliates include: The Denver Hospice, Colorado Visiting Nurse Association, Pathways Hospice, and Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care – all Colorado not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) corporations.
The Care Synergy enterprise consists of 5 companies, generating $100MM in revenue annually, serving more than 1200 Hospice patients per day and more than 1,000 Palliative Care clients.
REWARDING WORK YOU WILL DO:
- Directs and oversees Care Synergy and its Affiliate’s financial activities, ensuring integrity of all financial transactions, building financial sustainability, and safeguarding the assets of the Enterprise. Oversees financial reporting and transaction processing, including monthly financial reports, payroll, accounts payable, and cash management.
- Directs and manages accounting staff including building and implementing work processes and systems necessary to hire, motivate, develop, position, and retain the best people to meet enterprise and departmental goals.
- Builds and maintains financial controls and oversees all accounting functions to achieve and maintain financial sustainability, ensuring the Enterprise is operating within general compliance and audit guidelines reflective of the profession and that full transparency is maintained.
- Coordinates annual financial audits, 403(b) audit, cost report and 990 tax return preparation.
- Assists in statistical and financial analysis reporting.
- Produces monthly financial reports (i.e. income statements, balance sheets, operating budgets and variances, board reports, department and program budgets, fixed assets).
- Provides finance materials for various Boards and Committees of the Board for Care Synergy and its Affiliates.
- Supervises Accounting, Payroll, and Accounts Payable staff, including recruitment, professional development, training and assignment of duties and responsibilities.
- Maintains and implements appropriate accounting processes and internal controls over accounting functions including review of balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations and analysis.
- Manages the annual financial and 403(b) audits to receive a clean opinion with minimal audit adjustments and management letter comments.
- Provides oversight on Treasury management to minimize banking fees.
- Reviews the tax returns.
- Leads the annual budgeting process, and financial analysis.
- Coordinates external financial audits (external audit, focused audits and retirement plan audit).
- Participates in various forums internally to coordinate dissemination of financial information across the enterprise and support decision making, including support for Development and the grant solicitation/fulfillment process.
- Studies long-range economic trends and projects company prospects for future growth. Identifies opportunities for expansion into new program and revenue areas.
WHAT WE ARE GOING TO LOVE ABOUT YOU:
Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree preferred
Minimum Experience: Eight to ten (8-10) years’ experience of financial management with increasing responsibilities and progressive experience, preferably in health care. Non-profit accounting experience preferred. Prior experience in Public Accounting preferred.
Required License: Valid CPA is preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift/carry a minimum of 30 lbs.
