Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Research Integrity, the Sr. Conflict of Interest Analyst will assist the University Conflict of Interest Officers with implementation of the University financial conflict of interest policies for individuals and the institution. Individual conflicts of interest may arise from the external financial interests of faculty, staff and students that influence or may appear to influence the performance of the individual’s University responsibilities. Institutional conflicts of interest may arise from the external financial interests of senior administrative officials or from financial interests held by the University itself that may affect or appear to affect the primary research, education, clinical care, business transactions, or other activities central to the mission of the University. The Conflict of Interest Analyst will evaluate external financial relationships; investigate the potential for financial interests to influence University research or operations; and present information to the University Conflict of Interest Committee for review.
Responsibilities:
- Develops a sound understanding of the University conflict of interest policies as well as all applicable federal and state requirements regulating conflicts of interest in a public institution. (5%)
- Interacts with University senior administrative officials, faculty, staff and students about sensitive issues with appropriate professionalism, respect and courtesy. A high level of discretion, confidentiality and ethics are essential. (5%)
- Reviews external financial interests reported by senior administrative officials, faculty, staff and students and makes an initial determination of whether the financial interests require review by the University Conflict of Interest Committee. (30%)
- Reviews certain financial interests held by the University and makes an initial determination of whether the financial interests require review by the University Conflict of Interest Committee. (10%)
- Researches the circumstances of potential conflicts and summarizes the possible impact and risks to the University for the Conflict of Interest Committee. (10%)
- Attends Conflict of Interest Committee meetings and provides written and verbal summaries of the potential conflicts evaluated. (5%)
- Assists the Conflict of Interest Committee in determining how financial conflicts of interest can be managed, reduced or eliminated as appropriate to particular circumstances. (5%)
- Assists the Conflict of Interest Committee in collecting information related to compliance with University Conflict of Interest Policies and management plans. (10%)
- Provides training to the University community about financial conflict of interest policies, procedures and requirements. (5%)
- Assists senior administrative officials, faculty, staff and students with navigating the electronic disclosure system. Answers questions related to the disclosure process and facilitates communication between the users and the other related offices. (10%)
- Assists with the development and testing of software and databases for collecting, analyzing and managing financial conflicts of interest. Maintains records and documentation in compliance with University policies and federal/state regulations. (5%)
- Other office duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalency; plus four years related research experience, and demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills also required. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
