Job Purpose
The Yard Manager is responsible for utilizing the company's FACE values, mission, and vision as guides in order to lead their employees and reach the yard's goals. This is accomplished through servant leadership and managing of the team. This position is also responsible for implementing operational strategies and objectives to ensure the yard's goals. As a manager, this position is expected to be involved in their community in some fashion, set time aside for self-improvement and always strive to be a better leader. This position directly reports to the Director of Operations. The Yard Manager interacts daily with all yard employees (in the store and outside yard) and customers. This position interacts regularly with local sales managers, corporate employees (Central & Local Purchasing Department, Account Management Team, Sales Managers, Human Resources, IT Department, and the PARR Leadership Team) as well as interacting regularly with vendor representatives and industry associates. Located out of our Spokane, Washington lumberyard. A full-time schedule is typically Monday-Friday from 8am to 5pm with extra hours if needed. Salary starts at $97,850 to $117,420 depending on experience + Profit Sharing.
Leadership Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise and direct the workforce at the yard & within the precut areas
- Support both the Truss Manager and Millwork Manager on all activities as it relates to the facility as a whole
- Identify and respond to the need for personnel changes at the yard
- Manage day-to-day activities of employees from other departments assigned to your location
- Continually evaluate and, as necessary, encourage change in the policies and procedures related to yard operations
- Work well with all departments within PARR
- Promote, support, and utilize other divisions under PARR's umbrella for the good of the whole

Business Duties
- Enforce all company policies

- Ensure merchandising programs are implemented

- Maintain corporate guidelines and criteria for customer service
- Ensure an appropriate level of inventory is maintained at the facility to handle volume, working with both sales and purchasing teams to forecast increases or decreases in volume
- Train yard team in inventory process
- Complete 24-month Dead Stock write-down per company policy
- Train and lead the inventory management team at the location and train them in applicable tasks of Cycle Counting, Negative QTY research, adjustments, and SPC report management
- Lead the 6-week physical inventory preparation cycle and complete the weekly checklists
- Collaborate with both Central and Local Purchasing to align inventory needs with timing of available loads
- Identify and proactively manage slow moving and dead stock
- Prepare, monitor and control annual budget for the yard
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers and vendors
- Ensure equipment operators are trained in all aspects of safe and efficient vehicle use, as well as properly completing daily pre/post trip inspections
- Promptly call/email the support teams back when they reach out
- Walk new hires through benefit enrollment and know eligibility basics
- Work with HR on PINs and Reviews
- Hire and onboard correctly and timely with all proper processes and paperwork
- Understand and use proper DOT requirements
- Follow random drug testing protocol
- Participate in the Inventory Exchange Program as an (Assistant) Visiting Manager
- Report all accidents/incidents promptly using PARR standard procedures
- Complete preventative maintenance for all equipment in accordance with Fleet Manager guidelines and notify them of issues affecting fleet safety, performance, or Customer support
- Ensure vendors are providing service in-line with negotiated service - notify fleet manager if not
- Participate in inventory Exchange Program as a Lead Visiting Manager
- Understand the definition of a Resolved and an Unresolved Variance, and use knowledge to improve results
- Maintain special order report as outlined by Company policy
- Consistently maintain negative quantity report in a manner that occurrences are measured in lines rather than pages
- Deal with dead stock proactively prior to the 24-month deadline in a manner that results in the highest return possible to the Company
- Review daily and monthly reports to identify and correct problems in a timely manner related to invoicing, inventory, payroll (hours of service), and sales transactions
- Assist customers at point-of-sale, as needed
- Arrange community involvement for the yard by becoming involved with organizations that focus on improving areas of the community
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with customers
- Sell product to residential and commercial contractors as needed
Safety
- Conduct/monitor accident investigations
- Team members always wear high visibility/proper uniform
- Work with Ops Lead to review daily equipment inspection reports for all fleet equipment, and ensure necessary maintenance and repairs are completed in a timely manner
- Maintain a comfortable and safe working environment for all employees
- Work with yard leaders and truss and millwork managers to proactively address safety issues and bring them to the attention of the proper department
- Team always demonstrates consistency in following all company's safety protocols
- Ensure that there are the appropriate number of First Aid and AED certified team members
- Ensure safety committee meetings occur monthly, members are properly trained, and appropriate documents are uploaded to shared folder
- Ensure yard follows proper and timely reporting of all necessary accident and claim reports
- Utilize DashCam information as a tool to coach continuous improvement with driver team
- Work with Ops Lead to ensure maintenance and repair of all equipment
- Ensure that the team keeps the facility in excellent, organized shape
Communication
- Promptly respond to customer complaints and concerns

Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 3 years prior supervisory/management experience
- Knowledge of management principles, practices, and production methodologies

- Knowledge of the effects of "market conditions" upon the wood products industry

Working Conditions
The yard manager works in an office with a computer, on the retail floor of the yard, and walks the outdoor section of the yard.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to work indoors in a normal office environment for an entire day
- Must be able to grasp, talk, hear, and operate a computer and keyboard
- Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and carry objects 50 feet
