About the Job:
Peak Energy is looking for a Senior Thermal and Structural Analyst – ESS, to lead the development of our gigawatt scale energy storage system. This person will be a key stakeholder in thermal and structural design decisions, from architecture to optimization to validation. They will work with design and manufacturing partners, along with external partners, to provide engineering trades and guidance. This person has strong fundamentals while bringing a practical and can-do attitude to the role.
Responsibilities:
Thermal & Structural Analysis
- Perform detailed thermal analysis of storage systems, including transient and steady-state heat transfer simulations.
- Develop thermal management strategies to optimize system performance.
- Collaborate with design engineers to integrate thermal management solutions into overall system design.
- Conduct static and dynamic structural analysis of components and systems, including stress, strain, and fatigue life predictions.
- Evaluate structural integrity under various loading conditions including static, dynamic, and environmental factors.
- Propose design modifications to enhance structural reliability and performance.
- Define and spearhead selection and development of tools, infrastructure and design practices for a growing team.
Simulation and Modeling:
- Develop and validate simulation models for thermal and structural analysis.
- Utilize advanced computational tools and techniques, such as finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
Testing and Validation:
- Design and oversee experimental tests to validate models and predictions.
- Analyze test data and incorporate findings into design improvements.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
- Present analysis results and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Drive and participate in a culture of rapid prototyping and testing.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Masters or PhD in a field related to structural or thermal engineering.
- 10+ years of experience working with large scale electrical and structural systems.
- Proficiency in simulation software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or similar.
- Experience with design and manufacturing of medium to high volume products.
- Experience with hands-on testing and model validation.
- Eligible to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with seismic simulation.
- Experience working with HV switchgear.
- Experience working with large scale battery storage systems.
