The Project Lead Buyer is responsible for sourcing all materials and parts for the assigned projects within financial, time, and quality goals, in cooperation with the local and global procurement teams. For selected key materials, they contribute to supplier selection, development, and overall supplier management. This includes requests for quotation, negotiation, PO placement, and follow-up.
Main Tasks:
- Keeps overview and track of all materials and parts of the assigned projects and ensures that all materials and parts are ordered in time.
- Contributes to and leads the supplier scouting, pre-selection, and negotiation process for selected materials.
- Develops, in cooperation with global commodity managers, a strategic commodity plan, considering the North American master production schedule.
- Conducts in-depth cost and spend analysis to develop cost savings initiatives through various cost reduction options.
- Analyzes and executes various sourcing levers to reduce Total Cost of Ownership and Total Landed Cost for selected key materials.
- Partners with Global Commodity Leads on global sourcing projects.
- Develops and negotiates supplier contracts for critical time-sensitive commodities.
- Issues and follows up on purchase orders for selected key suppliers.
- Works closely with planning, production, and operational buyers to ensure material availability.
- Develops and executes a plan to quickly and effectively manage a supply interruption.
- Develops and maintains procurement project reporting.
Requirements/Skill Set:
- Minimum of 5 years of strategic or technical buying experience.
- Working knowledge of aerospace standards in accordance with ISO / AS.
- Comprehensive understanding of construction materials such as composites, alloys, and machined parts.
- Strong knowledge of the key aspects of the RFI/RFQ sourcing process.
- Ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders (manufacturers, production, legal).
- Ability to be proactive, resourceful, and a problem solver.
- Ability to work from the Huntsville office or manufacturing facility in Decatur.
