About the Job:
This Finance Professional 2 position is an integral component of the 14-person accounting team of the Medicine Administrative Center. This position has the ability to work 100% remote or hybrid.
Responsibilities:
- 60% Division or subset of division support:
- Manage small division or subset of a division. This includes monitoring and reconciling assigned sponsored and non-sponsored accounts and funds; reviews and applies grant and contract regulations and University policies and procedures and identifies areas of concern.
- Completes salary distributions and retro’s in a timely manner.
- Reviews, analyzes, and approves expenditures on assigned accounts.
- Meets with faculty to review accounting data included on financial reports. - 30% Financial Reports and other fiscal reports:
- Generate monthly financial reports to be used to identify trends, craft solutions, and identify potential deficits.
- Analyze monthly results and forecast remaining periods for expenditures and revenues.
- Reconcile accounts and analyze monthly financial results for reasonableness. - 10% Other Committees and Other Support:
- Act as backup for other team members.
- Serve on various committees and special assignments.
- Special projects as assigned.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required Qualifications:
- BA/BS with at least 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience to equal six years.
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Functional knowledge and experience with principles, practices, and techniques in fiscal documents in two or more of the following:
• Compiling information for financial reports
• Preparing, processing, and maintaining payroll documents
• Completing complex financial documents (orders, receipts, invoices) and reconciling for accuracy
• Performing accounts receivable and/or accounts payable functions.
Employees will be expected to attend up to two in-person accounting workshops per year located in Minnesota. Employees will be responsible for covering any travel costs that may be incurred when attending the in-person workshops.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two (2) years professional accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience to total four (4) years.
- Experience with the University of Minnesota financial management information systems and EFS Peoplesoft accounting system, or accounting or fiscal experience in a public, comprehensive higher education institution with considerable knowledge of administrative policies and procedures typical of a public institution of higher education.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret, present, and analyze information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to use good judgment in prioritizing multiple requests made at times by persons with competing interests.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
