Come join our US tax team, based in our Hoffman Estates HQ. As the Indirect Tax Manager, you will manage all aspects of US indirect tax (excluding payroll), provide thought leadership and expertise in order to establish and simplify US indirect tax processes, ensure control excellence, increase the impact of Tax on the business, and support a culture of continuous improvement and development in the Tax team.
This role will maintain a hybrid work schedule with 1-2 days in the office a week.
Main Accountabilities
- The role will be responsible for ensuring that all sales and use and property tax payments are made timely and accurately. Several tools/systems are utilized to complete these responsibilities: SAP, SAP Data Services, OneSource Indirect Tax Determination, RIA, Excel, SharePoint, and Alteryx.
- Maintain Thomson OneSource Indirect Tax Determination taxability matrix.
- Review in-house prepared sales and use and property tax returns including coordinating, gathering, and analyzing supporting data from internal and external sources.
- Manage state sales and use tax audits as well as county property tax audits, including responding to IDRs, and maintain audit-ready files.
- Proactively identify tax planning strategies/opportunities to reduce indirect tax liability including appealing property tax valuations, conducting reverse tax audits, applying for available exemptions and incentives, or other similar planning techniques.
- Monitor indirect tax law changes impacting the company and communicate impacts to business in a timely and straightforward manner.
- Provide support regarding tax planning strategies.
- Manage a two-person team to achieve the accountabilities noted.
- Assist in maintaining internal controls throughout all associated processes.
- Work on special projects as assigned.
- Evaluate current processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the indirect tax function.
Performance Measures
- Ensure that all indirect tax compliance is accurately and timely filed and paid.
- Ensure that proper records for sales and use taxes are maintained including exemption certification.
- Ensure that property tax abatements are maintained.
- Bring forward and pursue any indirect tax savings opportunities.
Legislative Requirements

- Adhere to all defined local environmental laws, regulations, and permit requirements.
Skills and Experience Required
- 5 or more years of experience in sales and use tax reporting and research.
- 5 or more years of experience with property tax compliance and research.
- Experience with Thomson OneSource Indirect Tax preferred.
- Experience with using Microsoft Excel, Word, and preferably Alteryx and SharePoint.
- ERP experience (SAP preferred).
Financial Competencies
- Understanding of IFRS and US GAAP Accounting.
- Risk & Control Orientation – Understand the importance of control excellence and continuous improvement as a fundamental underpin.
- Commercially Led - Support the business to deliver its commercial objectives through the effective provision of tax services.
Qualifications
- BS Finance or accountancy, or similar qualification.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, able to convey complex concepts in a clear and structured manner.
- Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines, in an environment that is fast-paced and demanding.
- A team player with the confidence and ability to work autonomously and make decisions.
