The Welfare & Self-Reliance Manager is the single point of contact for local leaders providing awareness, training, and support for Church and community resources to help local leaders minister to those in need. This role works to build capability and capacity in local leaders and to create/facilitate partnerships with community resources. This position will be based in the San Antonio, Texas or Austin, Texas area, and will be supporting the following coordinating councils: Texas San Antonio, Texas Austin, Texas McAllen.
Principles of Operation: This role normally operates in a 'pull' relationship with local leaders to meet the needs of stakes in the assigned region. The individual will also lead humanitarian donations in the region, and will work with stakes in response to emergencies and disasters to provide reporting to church leaders as well as donations in response to emergencies.
Consultation 70%
- Counsel with leaders on their needs and priorities, possible solutions within Church and community programs or services and follow-up
- Provide support for all Welfare & Self-Reliance resources and services
- Serve as the first contact for local leaders and community partners on urgent and preventative needs
- Primary contact point for Humanitarian requests from local leaders or community partners
Training 10%
- Maintain general subject matter expertise on Welfare & Self-Reliance supported services and products
- Provide general and specialized Welfare & Self-Reliance training to Stake Self-Reliance Committee and other leaders
- Facilitate new leader training on Welfare & Self-Reliance resources and services
- Introduce digital training and resources to leaders and community partners
- Follow a train the trainer model
Resource Development 10%
- General matter expertise on local market/emotional trends
- Build local relationships to meet the leader identified needs of members
- Be the Tier 1 contact for local organizations
- Focus and prioritize relationships based on leader identified needs for the following categories: Employment, Education, Emotional/Behavioral Health, Community Resources/Relationships, Humanitarian, Commodities, Emergency Response and other Welfare & Self-Reliance services and products
- Technological solution to capture and shares resources that effectively reach those who are in need
- Follow up with leaders on effectiveness of resource shared
Support of Area Initiatives 10%
- Support Area Presidency or Area Seventy initiatives
General Workforce Requirements:
- Temple worthiness
- Regular attendance and timely arrival at assigned work location
- Must be able and willing to travel and work in a mobile office
- For this location the individual will need to be fluent in English and Spanish
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree (Masters preferred) or equivalent work experience in business, sales, marketing or related discipline.
Work Experience:
- 10 years minimum (prefer 15 years) of professional/operational experience including 4 years of direct management experience and demonstrated success working with upper-level management. Seasoned professional.

- Experienced and effective trainer, facilitator, and communicator with the ability to train large and small groups of people and to develop others in a coaching/mentoring relationship
- Church leadership experience including application and understanding of welfare & self-reliance principles and the ability to properly influence priesthood and Relief Society leaders
- High level of analytical & creative skills, the ability to communicate complex ideas verbally & in writing & strong personal computer skills.
- Demonstrated ability to consistently produce results and work independently under minimal supervision
