We are seeking a Property Accounting Manager to join our regional/corporate office located in location. This is a hybrid opportunity with 3 days in the office and 2 days working remotely. This position is responsible for all accounting-related activities for a regional portfolio of properties including providing leadership and guidance to cross-functional support team members from other Accounting & Reporting departments. Ensures financial statements for regional portfolio of properties are reported accurately in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Serves as regional liaison between Leasing and Property Operations teams and Accounting & Reporting. Manage process consistency and standardization across all portfolios. Support Senior Management on special projects and/or training as needed.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Manage all day-to-day activities of Property Accountants to ensure all assigned activities are completed on time and accurately. Activities typically include review daily accounting activities such as journal entries, lease expense participation for significant transactions, manual bills, disputes, re-classes, etc.
- Review period-end activities for assigned properties, such as review and finalize financial statements and schedules, reconcile monthly, quarterly and annual expenses and balance sheet items. Provide monthly summaries of regional accounting to Property Controller.
- Function as primary contact and liaison for Property Management and Leasing teams for all aspects of Accounting & Reporting. Work in conjunction with and support internal stakeholders (Property Management, Leasing, Joint Ventures, Financial Services, Capital Markets, Development Accounting, Corporate Accounting, Accounts Receivable and Lease Administration) with appropriate accounting data to help achieve Company objectives. Support Tenant Account Specialists and Property Managers during dispute resolution and collections. Conduct monthly regional meetings to ensure all internal and external stakeholders are informed.
- Review real estate tax, insurance, and operating expense recovery budgets and reconciliations.
- Support ad hoc requests from Property Controllers, external auditors, and other internal customers. Assist with booking special accounting transactions as needed (ex. Acquisitions/dispositions).
Are You Qualified?
- Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Accounting or closely related discipline.
- CPA or actively working to obtain CPA, preferred.
- At least 4 years of accounting experience.
- At least 1-2 years of management experience preferred.
- Advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Intermediate level proficiency with JD Edwards (or related accounting software), preferred.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Technical skills require to research accounting treatment for certain transactions.
- Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and related concepts. Ability to review legal contracts (leases) to ensure financial impacts are recorded in accordance with GAAP.
- Highly trustworthy and able to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Strong capacity to adapt quickly in a complex learning situation.
- Comfortable processing numerical data to reach conclusions or understand references; ability to quickly determine mathematical solutions to problems.
- High energy level with a positive, upbeat attitude and the ability to multi-task.
- Equal comfort in leading a team and being a part of a team with a structured environment.
- Capable of making objective decisions, occasionally relying on intuition when necessary.
- High level of integrity and ethics.
- Communicates effectively in a variety of settings, both verbal and written.
