Rocky Mountain Custom Landscape, a part of the Mariani Premier Group—the ultimate peer group of the best residential landscaping companies across the country— has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Controller. This role will be based at our Denver, Colorado location.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting and finance functions for the Rocky Mountain Custom Landscape business unit. The ideal candidate possesses excellent communication skills, advanced Excel proficiency, strong problem-solving abilities, and effective leadership qualities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Unit Leadership Team Member:
- Collaborate with functional leaders to help set the company's direction.
- Participate in quarterly planning and regular leadership meetings.
Accounting and Financial Reporting:
- Maintain our accounting records.
- Oversee our monthly financial close, including monthly accruals, account reconciliations, and the monthly corporate reporting package.
- Collaborate with the President and Leadership team to prepare periodic financial forecast updates.
- Update and enhance monthly reporting packages for leadership, including analysis.
- Supervise the compilation of revenue, recognized costs, and profits on significant construction and maintenance projects.
Budgeting:
- Collaborate with the President to prepare annual budgets.
- Analyze and report on budget versus actual variances.
Operational Reporting and Support:
- Manage our system of KPIs and dashboards.
- Work with functional and operational team leaders to identify improvement areas within their functions.
Finance and Accounting Leadership:
- Lead, guide, and assist the business unit’s accounting team, which includes, among other functions:
- Accounts payable and cash disbursements
- Billing and contract management
- Accounts receivable and collections
- Recording payroll costs
- Vendor management
Other Accounting and Finance Functions:
- Engage in ad hoc projects as assigned by (a) the Business Unit President or senior management, and (b) MPG finance leadership.
- Undertake other duties as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience as a public accounting manager or in a similar Controller role.
- Knowledge/experience in construction accounting (revenue recognition ASC 606) is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant professional experience.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Proficiency in using and navigating ERP systems.
- Experience with implementing new accounting systems.
- Experience working with Netsuite/Aspire.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential.
LOCATION:
While the Controller will primarily work in the business unit’s accounting office in Denver, there will be occasional travel to the business unit’s office in Eagle/Gypsum, Colo.
