POSITION SUMMARY
The Estimator is responsible for assisting leadership with project management. This role works closely with contractors and team members to evaluate relative costs or potential risks and assess whether a project can be completed within the desired budget and timeframe. This role is also responsible for cultivating relationships with prospective clients to increase business opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Manage all aspects of major project work including sourcing materials, supplies and subcontractors; managing permits; and ensuring employees are informed of project requirements.
- Analyze documents, blueprints, and project plans to gain a thorough understanding of the project.
- Determine factors that influence the cost of a service or product.
- Prepare material estimates and cost estimates for project and labor.
- Develop and maintain relationships with company vendors and contractors.
- Manage bids from vendors and contractors; use bid data to prepare a detailed cost analysis.
- Generate proposals and submit bids for large production projects; record actual costs.
- Prospect for both public and private production projects through public bid sites, schools and consultants.
- Conduct surveys of potential jobs and necessary job site inspections for ongoing projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficiency in mathematics, statistics, and data analysis
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
- Report writing and strategic planning skills
- Familiarity with analyzing requirement data to develop material and cost estimates for large projects
- Expertise with analytic tools, such as spreadsheets and database managers
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional time management skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, finance, accounting, statistics or another related field; equivalent experience or training in engineering management or project management may be substituted.
- Minimum 2 years of experience estimating costs in a relevant industry.
- Fluency in English is necessary, bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT USED
Ability to operate all general office equipment including computer, printer, copier, fax, and phones. Ability to operate and drive vehicle for work related travel, meetings, and to run errands.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This is primarily an in-office position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. Frequent working around moving mobile equipment. Occasional exposure to materials and chemicals that could cause personal injury if improperly handled.
