At Fortis Fire & Safety, we provide industry-leading fire protection services across the United States. Our ever-growing footprint can be seen in California, Florida, Texas, North Carolina, and Chicago, and we are acquiring new brands all the time.
The Senior Accountant position is responsible for general accounting, financial reporting, cost/project accounting, account analysis, recording of payroll and benefits, maintaining fixed asset records and bank reconciliations. This position is responsible for the preparation of financial reports, KPIs, financial analysis, budgets and forecasts for various internal and external stakeholders. The Senior Accountant is responsible for handling all external information requests from auditors and other third parties in a timely and responsive manner. This position will assist in developing proper internal controls, processes, and procedures needed to protect the Company’s assets and ensure accurate and timely financial information. The Senior Accountant will provide support to local and remote accounting staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for the day-to-day activities of general accounting, financial reporting, cost/project accounting, account analysis, recording of payroll and benefits, maintaining fixed asset records and bank reconciliations
- Assist with financial audits
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Support ERP implementations for recently acquired companies
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements compared to budget and prior year
- Assist in the preparation of accurate and timely financial budgets and forecasts by working with all key stakeholders at branch, department, and corporate management levels
- Prepare and review monthly financial reports with key internal stakeholders at the regional, branch, and department levels
- Provide required financial analysis requested by internal stakeholders
- Prepare weekly cash and other KPI reports
- Responsible for month-end and year-end processes which include accruals, journal entries, commission calculations, revenue and expense review, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Review construction job budgets, analyze variances, and report profitability
- Handle all information requests for all outside audits and other third parties in a timely and responsive manner
- Assist in the development and establishment of the overall financial process flow, plans, internal controls, policies, and procedures to protect the Company’s assets and ensure accurate and timely financial information
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Ability to travel domestically up to 10%
- In-office position at the Schaumburg, IL HQ.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- CPA, CMA, CFA, CGMA, or actively pursuing
- A minimum of 2 years of progressive general ledger accounting experience
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
- Ability to communicate effectively
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Accounting
- CPA license
- Public or corporate accounting experience
- Construction accounting experience including percentage of completion
Compensation $80,000 - $120,000
