Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented senior accountant to join our growing organization. In this position, you will handle corporate and P&C division accounting operations within the company and verify financial records and transactions. You must have a keen attention to detail and maintain account balances, financial statements, and general ledger. You will also be responsible for daily transactional volume and monthly closings as well as keeping up to date on the accounting standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare standard and one-off monthly journal entries
- Prepare and review intercompany and elimination entries
- Prepare fixed asset entries and maintain fixed asset module
- Prepare lease entries and maintain lease tables
- Assist with the preparation of Quarterly and Annual Statutory financial statements (Yellow Book)
- Prepare assigned audit work papers and related audit requests
- Assist with preparation of Supplementary Statutory Filings
- Review financial statements for variances and provide explanations
- Ensure internal control compliance as mandated by Sarbanes-Oxley
- Ensure assigned month-end close procedures are completed efficiently and timely (i.e. fixed assets, leases, and other balance sheet reconciliations)
- Ensure the timely, proper and accurate reporting of insurance accounting transactions in a manner consistent with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Ensure compliance with NAIC & State of Florida OIR requirements and requests
- Special projects and other ad hoc duties as assigned (e.g., XBRL, SEC reporting)
Qualifications/Requirements
- Detail and deadline oriented, committed to professionalism
- In-depth understanding of GAAP and STAT accounting
- Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
- Team oriented, proactive approach to all situations
- Proficient research and communication skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- P&C Industry preferred
Education /Training
- Bachelor of Arts/Science in Accounting required
- 4 years relevant work experience of which 2 years are at a senior accountant level
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred
- Great Plains Dynamics/Management Reporter experience preferred
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables preferred
