MITER Brands, also known as Milgard and MI Windows & Doors, is one of the nation’s largest suppliers of vinyl windows and patio doors, with plants across the country. We are looking for an Accounting Manager for our Harrisburg, Pennsylvania office. In this role you will be responsible for accounting and financial analyses related to the preparation and maintenance of financial records, monthly financial closing processes, review of financial transactions and the development and production of core financial reports. This position supervises up to six accountants and is responsible for managing the Team to ensure work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, quarter-end review preparation, year-end audit preparation, and other duties as assigned or required.
Responsibilities- Actively leads and directs a Team of accountants whose responsibilities include general ledger, core financial reporting, account reconciliations, sales and use tax reporting, business licenses, unclaimed property filing, fixed asset/lease accounting, tax compliance and annual department budgeting.
- Maintains thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
- Takes ownership of the chart of accounts, including account segment definitions.
- Ensures compliance and integrity of transactions posting to the general ledger.
- Maintains closing schedules ensuring accurate and timely month, quarter and year-end close.
- Supports monthly financial processes, reporting and analysis ensuring transactions are properly classified in accordance with GAAP and corporate guidance.
- Maintains thorough knowledge of account reconciliations supporting balance sheet amounts and remedies outstanding items timely and manages Company’s account reconciliation software (Adra Balancer).
- Develops, implements and maintains standard accounting processes and procedures to enhance workflow and increase efficiencies and adapts them to a changing business environment.
- Develops and mentors Accounting Team, ensuring comprehension of assigned tasks and importance to achieving departmental goals, and provides opportunities for growth and development.
- Improves utilization of local ERP accounting system by working with IT to make necessary changes as appropriate.
- Leads integration of new reporting locations etc. into MI’s local ERP system.
- Maintains and validates integration of financial transactions and reporting between local ERP and Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) software.
- Assists in the development or enhancement of financial reporting to support business leadership and operations, including operational and financial metrics.
- Develops and supports compliance with internal controls ensuring integrity and consistency of financial and tax compliance reporting and risk management.
- Provides ad-hoc decision support analyses and recommendations to leadership optimizing performance and earnings.
- Serves as an accounting resource for operating locations and shared services department.
- Collaborates with other finance department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
- Responds to external audit and tax firm requests in a timely manner to ensure clean and timely quarterly reviews, year-end audit and annual tax filings.
Qualifications- 5+ years accounting/finance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience (3+ years) preferred.
- BA/BS degree in Accounting.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred but not required.
- Excellent PC skills with experience utilizing databases and mainframe applications.
- Experience working in an ERP environment and with EPM software a plus.
- Ability to relate and affect changes impacting accounting department.
- Sense of urgency and self-motivation, ability to work independently.
- Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
