The Senior Financial Analyst is a member of the Finance Division at Penn State Health, and reports to the appropriate facility or corporate Finance leadership. Under general supervision, the senior Financial Analyst is responsible for duties involving at least one of the following core areas: Revenue and Reimbursement; General Accounting; Third Party Contracting; Medicare / Medicaid Cost Reports; Financial and Statistical Reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 98%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
- The Senior Financial Analyst reports to the designated Finance leader, and is responsible for the following functions:
- Performs various duties during the monthly financial statement close process.
- Assists with year-end financial statement audit documentation, support and requests.
- Prepares, analyzes and distributes detailed cost center reports to departments
- Prepares clinical volume statistical information and distributes to stakeholders, and conducts analytical reviews on data, identifying trends and variances.
- Participates in cross-functional teams to assist with financial requirements and to enable appropriate financial reporting in all aspects.
- Communicates information clearly and concisely to various internal customers.
- The Senior Financial Analyst may also be responsible for the following functions:
- Coordinates and prepares various budget reports in conjunction with other team members and leaders.
- Prepares reimbursement reports and inputs for the monthly contractual model, in coordination with other finance teams.
- Prepares key data for inclusion in the Medicare/Medicaid Cost Report; Builds ad hoc reports utilizing Cerner, Qlik, and Lawson; Assists in the analysis of third party contracts; Identifies and develops and recommends to leadership insights and opportunities that can be used to improve financial performance in supported areas; Supports ad hoc analytic requests, providing accurate, timely data and analysis.
- Provides guidance to other staff members on more complex financial analyses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in finance, accounting, business, health administration, or a related field required.
- 2 years of functional experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong computer and software skills, and ability to remain organized and efficient.
- Can positively relate with team members and management.
- Possesses and can demonstrate strong analytical, documentation and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to build positive working relationships in a matrixed organization.
- Ability to analyze, reconcile from multiple sources, and translate data into useable information.
- Ability to analyze data, draw meaningful conclusions and provide appropriate level of thoughtful recommendations to finance leadership, as well as other operational leaders.
- Ability to communicate clearly with leadership and internal customers, to understand incoming requests, and be able to translate and draw on the appropriate data sources to ultimately provide useful, relevant insights and conclusions.
- Manage multiple projects and requests concurrently.
- Knowledge of financial systems / technical skills, along with a solid understanding of GAAP is preferred.
- Adaptable to changing circumstances and strategies.
