The Senior Analyst, Safety Analytics is responsible for the monitoring, analyzing, and reporting of safety trends, issues, and events from aircraft sensor data, and other operational data sources for JetBlue’s Flight Safety Analysis Program (FOQA). The Senior Analyst also develops algorithms and conducts rigorous analyses to identify hazards as an element of the Safety Risk Management (SMS) component of JetBlue’s SMS framework. The Senior Analyst reports to the Manager Safety Analytics and supports the Manager with all departments, the Pilot labor association, and external business partners on matters relating to aircraft sensor data, technical troubleshooting, optimization and analysis, technical systems and supporting infrastructure to align with JetBlue’s corporate objectives.
Essential Responsibilities
- Work with the Manager in developing, planning, and implementing processes within the Safety Analytics, Flight Safety Analysis, and Flight Data Analysis programs.
- Develop algorithms from aircraft sensor data that automatically monitor, track and trend hazardous flying.
- Work with the Manager and IT teams to Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) and integrate various data sources, including Crewmember reports of operational events and safety issues, aircraft sensor data (FOQA), and data generated from the operation.
- Build, train, optimize and deploy new Machine Learning (ML) algorithms.
- Employ the practical application of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Doc 9859 SMS Safety Performance Management theory to help leaders identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Safety Performance Targets (SPTs), and triggers/alerts to ensure timely measurement.
- Work with various stakeholders including Safety Management System (SMS), Safety Business Intelligence (SBI), Aircraft Data Programs, Communications Navigation and Surveillance (CNS), Technical Operations, Fuel and other teams to ensure consistency and a common thread with programs, processes, and products.
- Produce relevant analytical information and data for use by operational managers in the prevention of accidents and incidents.
- Perform troubleshooting, bug fixes, and maintenance of existing and new data products to ensure stability and robustness.
- Create and maintain safety performance metrics.
- Provide Safety Analytics input to data review boards and risk working groups.
- Ensure adherence to all safety and security regulations.

Minimum Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Safety, Statistics, Data Science, or other technical field; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience.
- Three (3) years of experience with data analytics, flight operation, optimization, and/or visualization.
- One (1) year of experience programming with SQL, Python, R and/or other language.
- Data visualization experience using business intelligence tools such as Tableau, Spotfire, PowerBI, etc.
- Advanced skills in Excel and complete Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to quickly learn new software through training and self-study.
- Available for occasional overnight travel (10%).
- Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
- Authorization to work in the US is required. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- Proficiency with relational database management systems programming (SQL, etc.).
- Proficiency with statistics and statistical programming (R, Python, etc.).
- Proficiency with business intelligence tools (Tableau, Spotfire, PowerBI, etc.).
- Experience setting up and executing data analyses and studies.
- Working knowledge of regulations and industry trends governing commercial aviation safety, security, environmental, and employee health and safety.
- Working knowledge of descriptive statistics and applied research methods.

- Regular attendance and punctuality.
- Potential need to work flexible hours and be available to respond on short notice.
- Able to maintain a professional appearance.
- When working or traveling on JetBlue flights, and if time permits, all capable crewmembers are asked to assist with light cleaning of the aircraft.

- Must fulfill safety accountabilities as prescribed by JetBlue’s Safety Management System.

- Identify safety and/or security concerns, issues, incidents or hazards that should be reported and report them whenever possible and by any means necessary including JetBlue’s confidential reporting systems (Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) or Safety Action Report (SAR)).
- Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations (FAA, OSHA, DOT, etc.) and Company policies, procedures and risk controls.
- Uphold JetBlue’s safety performance metric goals and understand how they relate to their duties and responsibilities.

Compensation:
- The base pay range for this position is between $56,500.00 and $110,000.00 per year. Base pay is one component of JetBlue’s total compensation package, which may also include access to healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan and company match, crewmember stock purchase plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, free space available travel on JetBlue, and more.
