Job Description:
At AES, we’re accelerating the future of energy, together, while transforming the customer experience and delivering unique customer products and solutions. We are looking for a Senior Analyst of Structured Trading to report to the Manager of Structured Trading within the AES Clean Energy Commercial team. The role will support the trading team at the business unit and individual staff level. The Analyst will develop, refine, and utilize commercial analytics as needed to execute transactions and develop strategies in collaboration with other commercial functions in Origination, Term Trading, Pricing, Fundamentals, and Risk Management. Located in Houston, Texas.

Main Responsibilities:
- Analyze capacity and resource adequacy markets across the country, working with trading, regulatory, and fundamentals teams.
- Analyze basis and congestion markets and help develop risk mitigating strategies to manage risk.
- Work with Pricing to value merchant exposures on M&A and development assets.
- Deliver model improvements and automation to shorten turnaround times necessary to meet aggressive business growth targets.
- Contribute towards contract negotiation as needed.
- Work with ETRM team to ensure adequate booking and representation of signed contracts.
- Work with Risk Management team to follow internal processes and guidelines for model validation and risk quantification.
- Develop an understanding of commercial impacts affecting AES CE business, grow their own skills and progress along the career path.
- Support commercial strategies with general analysis and research.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering, Economics, Finance or similar.
- Master’s Degree in above areas preferred.
- 3-5 years of relevant work experience in the energy industry in related functions.
- Familiarity with US power markets (Capacity and Resource Adequacy markets preferred, other markets helpful).
- Detailed understanding of revenue streams associated with renewable assets.
- Familiarity with operating aspects of power assets.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Active deployment of at least one programming language (Python, R, MATLAB, C/C++, VBA) is a plus.
- Experience supporting power trading, optimization, asset management is a plus.
- Experience with battery energy storage optimization/analytics is a plus.
