Main duties of the job
The post-holder’s duties will be primarily at the Neurophysiology department at the John Radcliffe Hospital. This post's focus is on contributing to the EEG video-telemetry service and reporting of sleep studies, including epilepsy pre-surgical assessment utilizing intracranial recording (adult intracranial only). The post-holder will work closely with multidisciplinary teams dealing with epilepsy and sleep disorders in the trust and as part of the Children’s Epilepsy Surgery Network (CESS). There is currently no on-call commitment.
The principal duties will include contributing to the running of the diagnostic EEG, paediatric and adult epilepsy (including pre-surgical evaluation), and sleep disorders in adults and children. The post-holder will be required to participate in the urgent adult and paediatric neurophysiology rota, which currently provides an in-hours weekday service and cover during colleagues’ leave of absence. Day-to-day activities will include performing or supervising reporting of standard EEG and video-telemetry, supporting clinical meetings and case discussions, and conducting EMG or other specialty clinics. The post-holder will also be responsible for supervising and guiding registrars and physiologists within the Neurophysiology department.

Qualifications/Training
- GMC Full registration and licence to practice
- MRCP or equivalent
- Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCT) in Clinical Neurophysiology and/or Neurology; OR Registration on GMC Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology and/or Neurology; OR within six months of achieving CCT at the time of interview
- Higher Medical Degree (PhD, MD or equivalent)
- Specialist sleep accreditation
- Specialist epilepsy accreditation
- Electromyography/Nerve Conduction competency
Experience
- General training in Clinical Neurophysiology to specialist level or equivalent
- Evidence of ability to make decisions at consultant level and to manage complex clinical problems
- Experience of consultant responsibilities in a tertiary neurosciences centre
Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent leadership skills and evidence of leading a clinical team at the level of a consultant in a teaching hospital
- Effective administrative and time management skills
- Knowledge of the NHS organization and Government’s agenda
- Evidence of significant contribution to successful teamwork
- Computing skills, including proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet programs
- Good spoken and written English
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience of teaching and training undergraduates and trainees
