Manulife is on a journey to become a customer obsessed, digital leader. Manulife Investment Management Timber and Agriculture (MIMTA) is redefining the way we lead our clients’ Timber and Farmland assets. The Strategic Innovation Team aids this transformation through identifying, testing, and implementing groundbreaking methods in forest and farm management. To support these efforts, we are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Project Manager.
The Project Manager will take ownership of R&D project management including prioritizing, coordination of project tasks, vendor management, and providing project updates to key partners. We are seeking a blend of attention to detail along with a keen eye towards the bigger picture of our innovation program. This individual will be a key link between multiple business units and external partners in order to enable a collaborative innovation environment. We are in search of an individual with a depth of knowledge in forestry and/or Agriculture, ready to deliver on our strategic priorities and who is motivated by successful implementation of the projects they lead.
Individual Responsibilities: (50%)
- Project Management: Manages and coordinates business and technical projects through all phases of initiation, development and implementation. Identifies resource needs for the project and establishes roles, expectations, and goals with team members. Identifies, analyzes, mitigates, documents, and controls project risks. Ensures that assigned projects are completed within budgets and schedules while meeting business objectives. Reports on and manages project resource tracking and budgets for project area.
- Innovation Strategy: Proven ability to leverage industry experience, professional judgement, analytical skillset, and innovative mindset to identify business challenges, develop clear business cases, and recommend solutions. Drives the assessment of each project at completion to identify impact and lessons learned that can be applied to further improve the innovation strategy.
Shared Responsibilities: (50%)
- Project Collaboration and Facilitation: Work with partners, both internal and external, to define and lead the scope, strategy, requirements and implementation of innovation projects. Strong facilitation skills with the ability to encourage participation in R&D among colleagues across the organization. Responsible for implementing innovation projects across multiple team members; developing analysis to support each project.
- Project Communication: Provides effective and regular communication within the project team as well as across partners, sponsors and management. Proven ability to communicate complex topics to a wide variety of audiences.
What are we looking for
- Bachelor of Science degree in natural resources or a related field.
- Knowledge of silviculture, forest mensuration, timberland/farmland appraisal, growth and yield models, supply and demand modeling, forestry/farm operations, and regulatory matters.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and influence various team members as well as external vendors.
- Is very independent, creative and collaborative professional.
- 10+ years of specialized experience in forestry/farm and project management.
- Takes a lead role in innovation process and strategy execution.
- Has expertise in handling both waterfall and agile project methodologies; PMP designation would be an asset.
- Solid track record of running and delivering medium to large scale projects involving cross functional teams.
- Able to effectively articulate technical vision, possibilities, and outcomes to technical and non-technical audience.
- Strong knowledge of remote sensing including LiDAR and geospatial analysis.
- Sound foundational knowledge of IT infrastructure, architecture, and data management.
- Strong problem-solving skills, ability to exercise judgement to cope with complex situations using both skills and experience to lead to the right outcome for the organization.

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Salary range is expected to be between
$68,475.00 USD - $114,125.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
