Short Summary:
The Certified Medical Assistant performs all of the activities, which enhance patient care and contribute to the organization and efficiency of the department. The Certified Medical Assistant provides all aspects of clinical care within their realm of clinical competence as delegated and supervised by the physician/provider.
These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, following the mission, values, and behaviors of Insight Hospital and Medical Center. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and guests.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepping schedules and patient rooms, rooming and taking vitals for patients, assisting Physicians in the clinic including in-office procedures, and cleaning rooms following appointments.
- Faxing notes, obtaining information, completing paperwork, and sending referrals.
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels of supplies and medications, and further ensures that all outdated supplies and medications are removed from inventory.
- Assists in maintaining patient medical records by completing all required documentation.
- Collects and processes patient specimens per lab protocol, including completion of appropriate requisition and documentation. Performs EKGs as directed by Physician according to CV lab protocol.
- Keeps patient log and assignment sheet rotation updated. Assists with orientation of new staff to services as directed.
- Answers phone calls, returns patients' phone calls as needed for questions, and communicates with all departments to facilitate patient flow.
- Participates in Quality Improvement activities as directed. Participates in continuing education programs and all assigned meetings.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High-school graduate or equivalent. Graduate of an accredited (by the CAAHEP or the ABHES) Medical Assistant program. Documentation of certification by the AAMA, and must maintain certification by AAMA guidelines. Must be CPR certified. Knowledge of commonly utilized confidentiality requirements. Knowledge of universal precautions. Two or more years of experience in an ambulatory setting is preferred. Experience with electronic documentation and retrieval of patient information is preferred.
- Spanish, Mandarin and Cantonese speaking preferred.
- Strong customer service skills, with a proven track record of demonstrating solid customer service. Must be detail-oriented, with a demonstrated commitment to providing superior patient care. Must possess strong organization and filing skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with the population served and all involved in patient care. Must have proficiency in Microsoft Windows environment including Word and Excel. Ensures a safe environment for all patients, family, staff, and visitors.
- Ability to adjust quickly to changes in workflow. Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively. Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Must possess the ability to take initiative in support of patient advocacy. Ability to serve as a mentor for new staff as directed. Must possess the ability to coordinate the efficient use of examination rooms by the physician/provider maintaining optimal patient flow.
