Job Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology, Master’s degree preferred.
- CPR certified
- American College of Sports Medicine – Exercise Specialist Certification, preferred.
- ACLS preferred.
- Experience monitoring ECG.
- Demonstrated organization and time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and customer delivery skills.
- Ability to lead and facilitate a wide variety of diverse patient groups.
- Ability to assess needs, identify problems, explore alternatives, and implement solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions in accordance with hospital policy.
- Knowledge of basic computer operations and use of word processing software.
- Ability to use clinical and exercise equipment to demonstrate for patient.
- Own a car – for work purposes.
Job Duties
- Demonstrates the WMH Customer Service Values, which are key in providing quality service to patients and customers.
- Assesses treatment and care for specific patient populations and plans age appropriate care. Utilizes hands-on physical assessment skills and interview techniques to formulate a clinical data base, analyzes collected information derived from patient and other sources to identify age-appropriate patient problems and needs. Re-assess on an ongoing basis and documents findings or changes in condition in the progress note or exercise record. Assess severity of findings and obtains physician intervention as warranted.
- Instructs all Rehabilitation patients by demonstrating proper exercise techniques. Develops and adjusts exercise prescriptions for each patient. Educates patients concerning risk factors and prevention of cardiovascular disease.
- Participates in cardiac outreach programs and coordinates wellness and fitness programs.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform and analyze fitness testing (i.e., strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular testing).
- Uses data gained through assessment and collaboration with the health care team to develop a plan of care for each patient in the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Weiss Wellness Program.
- Demonstrates ability to function in emergency situations.
- Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions to assist with age-appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
- Coordinates care between other professional disciplines as needed. Maintains regular reporting of patient’s progress to their physician.
- Exhibits competency in arrhythmia recognition for patients in Cardiac Rehab phases I, II, and III. Assists in Cardiac Lab (i.e., stress testing, EKG, and clinic).
- Maintains environment and equipment in an appropriate manner. Exhibits skills necessary for demonstration and patient instruction for safe use of exercise equipment. Notifies appropriate department of equipment failure.
- Maintains daily record of outpatient attendance and ensures appropriate billing.
- Maintains current knowledge of organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Supports hospital policies and procedures. Maintains and assists with QA process.
- Demonstrates responsibility for own professional practice and growth by ensuring clinical knowledge base and skills are maintained and enhanced.
