Main Purpose of Job: Join Us in Making a Difference at DJS! The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of Registered Nurse, Charge, so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS! A Registered Nurse Charge is the lead level of work responsible for nursing care in a ward, cottage, or unit on an assigned shift at a State facility. A Registered Nurse Charge Medical provides nursing care in a medical setting to the youth within the guidelines of the Nurse Practice Act, DJS Standards, policy, and procedure. Employees in this classification assign, review, approve the work of, and train Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and the non-licensed nursing or support staff assigned to the work area for a shift.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.
Experience: Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse, one year of which must have been in the Medical option.
Notes:
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university for the one year of general experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in nursing or a health-related field from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The preferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following: Experience providing clinical services to an adolescent population with mental health or substance abuse issues.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.
- Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
- Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.
- Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
