Summary:
The Occupational Health Nurse provides nursing care within the scope of RN practice for injury evaluation and management, drug screen collection, health risk assessment, and ensuring compliance with the regulatory bodies. The Occupational Health Nurse will work with both internal and external clients.
Responsibilities:
- Provides initial assessment of on-the-job injuries and illnesses, reports positive findings to provider and follows through with orders received.
- Refers for further evaluation as necessary
- Provides appropriate care, treatment, pre-placement exams and follow-up of work-related injuries based on knowledge of work environment.
- Participates collaboratively with other Work Health staff on special projects/studies.
- Collaborates with staff to identify educational needs to the practice and makes those offerings available.
- Participates in the management of annual TB testing, screening of workers with positive PPDs per the Tuberculosis Control Plans.
- Assists with the coordination and scheduling of the annual influenza vaccination programs.
- Performs and documents results of point of care testing and appropriate interventions, EKG's, visual acuity, audiometry, spirometry, urine drug screen, wound dressings, ear irrigations and other necessary testing.
- Collaborates with Infection Control Department to coordinate the work up and treatment of workers exposed to infectious diseases, including blood borne pathogen, TB, pertussis, meningitis.
