Contract Buy Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician/Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts in exchange for employment at certain rural/highly rural facilities for a period of four years obligated service.
Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) Basic Requirements
- English Language Proficiency.
- Education: A post-master's certificate or master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
- License and Certification: All APN (NPs) must possess and maintain an active, current, full, and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP.
- Basic Certification: All APN (NPs) must maintain full and current board certification in an area of clinical specialty.
Scope: Demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies.
Preferred Experience:
- 2 years of Leadership / Supervisory Experience
- 2 years Psychiatric Emergency Services Experience
- 2 years of Inpatient Psychiatric Experience
Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting, light carrying, reaching, walking, standing, vision requirements, and ability to distinguish colors.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm (PST)

Travel: Occasional travel for training
The clinician practices in Mental Health (MH) Service as a Psychiatric Mental Health APN/Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality, timeliness, and the advancement of the VA mission.
Major duties/responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Program Management
- Supervisory Duties as assigned
- At least 60% are clinical duties/direct patient care
- Uses advanced clinical judgment to independently provide evidence-based treatment to Veterans.
- Provides patient and family education on medical/mental health conditions.
- Demonstrates leadership and engages in collaboration with other mental health professionals.
- Assesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed.
- Counsels and treats patients with substance use disorders.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic studies.
- Initiates referrals/consults to specialty services.
