Description
Position Overview: The Outpatient Endoscopy Center Nurse plays a crucial role in providing high-quality care and support to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures in an outpatient setting. This position requires a skilled and compassionate nurse who is knowledgeable in endoscopy procedures, patient assessment, and patient education. The nurse will collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe and efficient delivery of care, while maintaining a comfortable and reassuring environment for patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough pre-procedure assessments, including reviewing medical history, performing vital sign measurements, and assessing the patient's physical and emotional well-being. Identify and communicate any potential risks or concerns to the healthcare team.
- Patient Education: Provide clear and concise explanations of endoscopic procedures, including the purpose, process, and potential risks. Ensure patients understand pre-procedure instructions, such as fasting requirements and medication restrictions. Address any questions or concerns the patient may have to alleviate anxiety and promote informed decision-making.
- Procedure Preparation: Prepare the patient for the endoscopic procedure, including assisting with gowning, positioning, and transport of patient.
- Intra-procedure Support: Collaborate with the endoscopist and other healthcare professionals during the procedure, providing assistance as needed. Monitor the patient's vital signs, administer medications as directed, and document relevant information accurately. Maintain a sterile and safe environment throughout the procedure.
- Post-procedure Care: Monitor patients in the recovery area, assessing vital signs, level of consciousness, and pain management. Provide appropriate post-procedure instructions, including dietary restrictions, activity limitations, and medication administration. Address patient and family concerns and provide emotional support as needed.
- Documentation and Record-keeping: Maintain accurate and complete electronic medical records, documenting patient assessments, procedures, medications administered, and any adverse events or complications. Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements regarding patient confidentiality and record-keeping.
- Quality Assurance and Infection Control: Adhere to established infection control protocols, including proper sterilization and disinfection techniques. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, such as monitoring patient outcomes, reporting incidents, and identifying areas for process improvement.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, MAs, CRNAs, and other healthcare professionals. Communicate patient updates, provide input on patient care plans, and participate in team meetings and educational activities to enhance knowledge and skills.
Requirements
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Current registered nurse (RN) licensure in the state of Arkansas.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with specific experience in endoscopy or gastroenterology preferred but not required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be preferred.
- Strong critical thinking, assessment, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide emotional support to patients and their families.
- Proficient in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant software applications.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Willingness to participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain current knowledge and skills.
