The Compensation and Pension (C&P) Physician Chief serves as a practicing clinical physician responsible for the overall management of the C&P program provided by the Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS). Responsibilities include clinical and administrative tasks associated with clinic operations and managing a variety of technical clinical and administrative support services critical to clinic operation.
Basic Requirements:
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved school.
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Completion of residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Preferred Experience:
- Board Certified/Board Eligible.
- C&P examinations including physical examination and claims file reviews.
- Ability to lead a group of Providers and non-Provider staff to meet VA directives and requirements.
Major Duties Include:
- Clinical Patient Care: Approximately 60% time.
- Administrative Tasks: 0-40% time as assigned.
- Ensures proper examination and evaluation of applicants seeking disability benefits.
- Complies with laws and policies related to C&P processes.
- Manages human capital to enhance department access and maximize efficiency.
- Provides education to Veterans and their families as necessary.
- Reviews relevant historical and medical records for veteran history and findings.
- Maintains the highest moral and ethical standards and supports EEO within the organization.
- Directly supervises staff including Nurse Managers, Registered Nurses, and Administrative Assistants.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, schedule TBD. Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. Paid Time Off: 50-55 days per year. Retirement: Traditional federal pension and federal 401K. Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care. CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement.
