Overview:
PRN Position
The Emergency Medical Technician performs and documents direct routine patient care under licensed provider's supervision according to hospital guidelines.
Qualifications:
Age of Patients Served: All Age Groups.
Required Education: High School Diploma or GED or Vocational Training.
Required Licensure/Certifications: Current Florida EMT license -OR- current Florida Paramedic license BLS from the American Heart Association.
Required Experience: Less than 1 year of practical clinical experience.
Preferred Experience: 1 or more years previous experience in a health care environment.
Necessary Skills:
- Knowledge of patient care and basic human needs within life span.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of aseptic techniques.
- Knowledge of acute and chronic disease processes.
- Knowledge of standard universal precautions.
- Basic knowledge of anatomic structure and human body systems.
- Ability to recognize obvious job-related emergencies.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Recognition of lethal EKG rhythms.
- Performance of electrocardiograms.
- IV insertion.
- Urinary catheter insertion.
- Gastric tube insertion.
- Phlebotomy.
- Basic wound care.
- Splinting of musculoskeletal injuries.
- Automatic External Defibrillator operation.
- Chest compressions.
- Eye irrigation.
