Description
The histology laboratory contributes a valuable service aiding pathologists in providing patient diagnoses. Information gained through microscopic evaluation of tissue slides prepared by histology technicians allows a pathologist to either identify or dismiss disease. The preparatory steps taken to ensure a quality diagnosis are key to this relationship.

Required Qualifications:
- H.S. Diploma or GED - Completion of Histotech Apprenticeship Program (HTAP) OR successful completion of an accredited HT training program or equivalent educ/experience.
- Certification or Registry (HT, HTL) from a government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (e.g. ASCP, NCA, etc.).
- National Certification from American Society for Clinical Pathology upon hire.
- 8 years of Histotech experience AND Certification (HT, HTL) from a government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (e.g. ASCP, NCA, etc.) AND high school diploma or equivalent AND Completion of Histotech Apprenticeship Program (HTAP).
- 7 years of Histotech experience AND High school diploma or equivalent AND 2 years of supervised on-the-job-training (OJT) as a histotech AND Certification (HT, HTL) from a government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (e.g. ASCP, NCA, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree - Courses in Algebra, Chemistry and Biological. Or
- Bachelor's Degree - Courses in Algebra, Chemistry and Biological.
- 6 years of Histotech experience AND Associate Degree AND successful completion of an accredited HT training program AND Certification (HT, HTL) from a government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (e.g. ASCP, NCA, etc.).
- 5 years of Histotech experience AND Bachelor degree AND successful completion of an accredited HT training program AND Certification (HT, HTL) from a government agency or nationally recognized professional organization (e.g. ASCP, NCA, etc.).
- Histotech experience preferred that the experience be from an equivalent high volume or acute care laboratory performing high complexity testing.
