Responsibilities
- Ability and willingness to rotate within the Radiology and CT departments as needed.
- May assist with training of Radiology and CT students.
- Perform a variety of related digital image management tasks as necessary.
- Maintain competency by demonstrating a complete working knowledge of all imaging equipment and supplies.
- Demonstrate proper positioning for all CT and Radiology exams, including invasive procedures.
- Provide radiation protection to patient, family, staff and self, according to prescribed safety standards.
- Recognize emergency situations and initiate code procedures as needed.
- Perform patient assessment and screening, such as allergies, potential drug interactions, and lab requirements, within the scope of practice.
- Review patient’s prior imaging and history to ensure appropriate exam is ordered.
- Maintain aseptic or sterile technique, as appropriate, when performing invasive procedures.
- Directly assist the Radiologist during procedures in Radiology and/or CT.
- Prepare patient for intravenous (IV) injections: starting the IV and maintaining access.
- Administer IV contrast per approved protocols.
- Maintain competency in point of care testing (POCT) for creatinine/eGFR testing.
- Follow all CAP and CLIA guidelines in the performance of point of care testing (POCT).
- Review CPOE and written orders checking for special instructions from physicians.
- Accurately critique images to determine diagnostic quality and adjust factors if imaging is to be repeated.
- Adhere to established protocols, QA guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain necessary inventory of supplies and ensure cleanliness of the department.
- Complete all aspects of a patient’s exam, including ensuring images are available for physician review on PACS.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and participating in professional societies.
- Accept and complete all duties positively and without conflict.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, successful completion of an approved course in Radiologic Technology, three years of experience conducting routine diagnostic procedures, and completion of an approved program in advanced modality or one year of experience in advanced modality. A bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Technology may substitute for up to one year of experience in conducting routine diagnostic procedures. Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Diagnostic Radiology is required. Advanced registry is highly preferred, and may be required for certain modalities.
