About the Job: The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to patients, supervising care treatment and services of patient care provided by LPNs, CNAs, and other staff on the assigned unit and shift. Responsibilities include developing, implementing, and evaluating an individual plan of care for each patient, assessing and re-assessing patients, and communicating appropriate information with the interdisciplinary team.
Roles and Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides and coordinates care by assessing physical and behavioral health needs of patients, developing and implementing nursing care plans, maintaining medical records, and educating patients and their families about various health conditions while ensuring patient safety.
- Assesses patient’s status on an ongoing basis and documents pertinent information.
- Ensures nursing treatment plans are specific to assessed needs and that the initial treatment plan is completed upon admission.
- Takes physician’s orders accurately and documents appropriately; ensures orders are legible and transcribed per policy.
- Accurately administers medications and documents controlled substances; monitors lab results to validate medication compliance.
- Notifies physician of significant changes in patient status.
- Supervises self-administration of medications using two means of patient identification.
- Maintains accountability for the administration, recording, control, and security of medications.
- Completes admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately.
- Confers regularly with the treatment team regarding patient care and participates in unit activities.
- Provides education to patients, families, and co-workers regarding medication usage and other necessary topics for optimal patient care.
- Monitors patient acuity, census, staffing needs, and makes arrangements for coverage as needed.
- Assures thorough, accurate documentation is completed for all patients on each shift.
- Gives thorough report to oncoming staff and supervisors.
- Provides coverage in emergency services as needed.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: - Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing.
- One or more years of nursing experience within the clinical area of service preferred.
- Experience in behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery environment preferred.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS: - Valid current RN license from the state or from a compact state, where applicable.
- Certified in Psychiatric Nursing preferred.
- CPR and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire).
- First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
