Essential Job Functions:
- Teaching:
Provides high quality instruction in field of expertise, ensuring students meet course outcomes.
Plans, evaluates, and revises curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.
Selects and obtains materials and supplies, such as textbooks and laboratory equipment.
Prepares course materials, such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
Prepares materials for laboratory activities.
Identifies specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
Initiates, facilitates, and moderates classroom discussions.
Supervises laboratory sessions.
Assists students who need extra help with their coursework outside of class.
Maintains student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
Evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory and clinic work, assignments, and/or papers.
Compiles, administers, and grades examinations, or assigns this work to others.
Maintains regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students.
Advises students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
Acts as advisor to student organizations. - Clinical Instruction:
Assesses clinical education needs and patient and client teaching needs using a variety of methods.
Demonstrates patient care in clinical units. - Research & Scholarship:
Conducts research in a particular field of knowledge and publishes findings in professional journals, books, or electronic media.
Reviews papers for publication in journals. - Service & Professional Development:
Participates in campus and community events, such as giving presentations to the public.
Actively identifies opportunities and provides services relating to fields of expertise for the benefit of internal and external communities. - Other Assigned Duties:
Collaborates with staff and colleagues to address teaching and research issues, and to improve students' learning experiences.
Serves on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Director Duties:
- Patient Care/Quality of Care:
Provides direct resident supervision in the clinics.
Establish and monitor an emergency schedule and coverage during work hours and after work hours as established by the Office of Clinical Affairs.
Educates and monitors residents’ presentation of pre-estimates to their patients as a form of communication to avoid misunderstandings in the cost of treatment provided in the clinics.
Monitors active and inactive patients and collaborates with the office of clinical affairs to maintain a manageable number of patients assigned to each resident. - Resident Education:
Monitors resident’s clinical requirements and progress as established by the Program Director.
Educates and guides residents in communications with their patients and the front desk. - Administrative/Financial/Operations:
Communicates with Office of Clinical Affairs for management of internal and external referral sources.
Attends all meetings as established by the Chair and/or Program Director.
Works in collaboration with the Program Director to balance the academic, research and clinical hours. - Quality Assurance:
Assists Program Director in the management of patient complaints in conjunction with the Office of Clinical Affairs.
Establishes and enforces clinical policies and protocols.

- Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of Dental Medicine, principles and methods for curriculum design, and thorough knowledge of the English language. - Skills:
Instructing, critical thinking, judgment/decision making, active listening, and complex problem solving. - Abilities:
Finger dexterity, extent flexibility, manual dexterity, problem sensitivity, and speech clarity.
Physical Requirements and Working Environment:
Must be able to work in a clinical setting and use dental related materials and instruments. May be required to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.

Required Certifications/Licensures:
1. Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from CODA accredited institution.
2. Board certified/eligible by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
3. Eligible for Florida Dental license or Teaching Permit.
Required Education: DDS/DMD or foreign equivalent dentistry degree
Required Experience: Professional doctoral-level teaching experience.
