Our National Financial Services and Asset Management client is hiring a REMOTE (preferably following CST working hours) Director, Enterprise Data Architecture. This dynamic new strategic hands-on leadership role is responsible for helping develop and execute the technical vision to drive the organization's transformation into a “Data Driven” company. This position will play a key role in shaping the future of the company’s data infrastructure, cloud environments, and information architecture. This role will focus on developing enterprise-wide data strategies and architecture roadmaps; and drive the adoption of modern data technologies and best practices to accelerate business growth through data insights and cloud solutions.
This individual will work closely with senior executives, cross-functional teams, and IT management to implement comprehensive data strategies that integrate cloud technologies, data governance, and business intelligence (BI) frameworks. The position will also lead a team of 2 database administrators (DBAs) and be directly involved in driving data integration, performance optimization, and cloud database solutions.
Your Mission:
- Provide thought leadership and execute a sustainable, scalable, and high-performance data architecture that meets dynamic enterprise requirements.
- Translate the strategic data vision into actionable architecture roadmaps and service offerings, leading by example and being hands-on in building the architecture.
- Lead the design and implementation of robust data platforms, including data integration (ETL), master data management (MDM), dimensional/multi-dimensional data structures, and big data solutions.
- Serve as the technical lead for data warehouse, business intelligence (BI), and application support projects, working closely with architects and developers.
- Design, optimize, and administer databases (MS SQL Server, SaaS) in support of enterprise applications, ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Lead the optimization of SQL queries, perform baseline testing, and troubleshoot database performance and connectivity issues.
- Develop and implement comprehensive backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability plans using solutions such as Always On Availability Groups, log shipping, and cloud-based options.
- Drive enterprise-wide database maintenance plans to ensure maximum availability and performance
- Conduct strategic reviews of database architecture to align with business goals and technological advancements, ensuring minimal downtime during upgrades and migrations.
- Articulate requirements and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through detailed documentation, diagrams, use cases, and process workflows.
- Research, evaluate, and propose emerging data technologies and best practices to continuously enhance data architecture and administration.
- Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise data architecture leveraging Microsoft cloud-based solutions such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake Storage, and Azure SQL Database Managed Instances.
- Architect and manage robust ETL pipelines using Azure Data Factory and other cloud-based tools to ensure seamless data integration across platforms.
- Implement and optimize advanced analytics platforms such as Azure Analysis Services or Azure Databricks to enable real-time insights and machine learning capabilities.
- Drive the adoption of modern data governance and compliance practices to ensure effective data management and adherence to regulations like GDPR and CCPA.
- Ensure scalability and high availability of cloud databases with solutions such as Azure Cosmos DB or Always On Availability Groups.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, and Database Administration with large enterprise experience
- 10+ years of experience with SQL/T-SQL and database management systems (MS SQL Server)
- 10+ years of experience with software development tools and enterprise data modeling
- 5+ years of experience with cloud-based data solutions (Azure preferred)
- 3+ years of experience leading and managing projects and teams.
- Expertise in enterprise database solutions using MS SQL Server (latest versions) and advanced T-SQL programming and optimization techniques.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing ETL solutions using tools such as Azure Data Factory or SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
- Expert knowledge of Dimensional and Multi-Dimensional Modeling, OLAP databases (Azure Analysis Services, SQL Server Analysis Services), and cloud-based solutions (e.g., Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks).
- Experience in developing and maintaining enterprise information architecture documentation, including data models, data flow diagrams, and high-level architecture diagrams.
- Proficiency in database security practices, database performance optimization, and cloud data management.
- Knowledge of data integration interfaces (e.g., microservices, APIs) and modern data governance frameworks (GDPR, CCPA).
- Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and DevOps practices.
- Ability to lead by example and foster collaboration across departments while maintaining a hands-on approach to architecture development and troubleshooting.
- Expertise in designing scalable and secure data architectures in cloud environments, leveraging data lakes, data warehouses, and real-time streaming technologies.
- A plus: Certifications in cloud and data technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer) and knowledge of data governance frameworks like GDPR, CCPA.
- Strong leadership and relationship-building skills, with the ability to foster collaboration across different organizational units.
