Summary
The Senior Architect is a certified licensed architect with a minimum of ten years of experience in architecture practice. Responsible for providing technical leadership and documentation coordination including the development of design drawings, technical documentation, and leading project team assignments for multiple, large, and complex projects. Must possess a commitment to design excellence, user experience, material health, social purpose, and sustainability. Ultimately responsible for the finished plans, specifications, and approval of materials and construction on projects.
Essential Functions:
- Licensed Architect with major project responsibility for finished plans, specifications, and approval of materials and construction.
- Direct and coordinate the production of schematic, design development, and construction documents in collaboration with the Project Manager.
- Plan, develop, and manage construction documents and execute technical documentation.
- Conduct construction administration duties, including site visits, RFI responses, submittals, and punch list reviews.
- Resolve subject area issues, define scope, and develop novel concepts and methods.
- Review completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations.
- Establish and follow budgets, task schedules, and components of the work plan with the Project Manager.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to monitor project billing and maximize team quality and efficiency.
- Coordinate with clients, project team, consultants, and contractors to ensure trust and confidence.
- Provide leadership and oversight of a team of project architects, project associates, and interns.
- Analyze design, design data, and planning as it relates to project scope.
- Contribute innovative design solutions that capture the intended design vision.
- Contribute to bold design solutions that balance scale, aesthetics, and context.
- May participate in marketing efforts and lead presentations to prospective clients.
Competencies:
- Proficiency in Revit required.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suites preferred (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Proficiency with SketchUp or Rhino preferred. Lumion, Enscape, and V-Ray are a plus.
- Strong knowledge of zoning and building codes, specifications, and agency requirements (NFPA, ADAAG, FGI, OBC, IBC, etc).
- High caliber blend of design and technical skills.
- Advanced knowledge in the design process, construction documentation, and construction administration.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work within a client’s budget.
- Excellent organizational and client presentation skills.

- Collaborative and professional work ethic.
Certification Requirements:
- Architectural License required.
- NCARB Certificate as needed on project assignments.
- LEED AP Certificate and experience in sustainable design preferred.
Supervisory Requirements:
- Direct and mentor project associates and interns.
Work Environment:
- Professional open office environment with low to moderate noise levels, including collaborative work areas for team meetings. Each office location has a workstation for scanning/photocopying and a café for dining. Building construction sites may include varying temperatures, wind, dust, and noise levels, and may include hazardous and dirty conditions.
Physical Demands:
- Hand/Wrist/Finger dexterity for 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week.
- Ability to lift a set of construction documents.
- Ability to sit for long periods of time.
Position Type/Hours expected to work:
- This is a full-time position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week.
Travel:
- Occasional travel depending on project assignments.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science in Architecture or Bachelor of Architecture degree from an accredited university preferred or have met the years of architectural experience required for license testing.
- Master of Architecture preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in architecture practice.
