AMS Impact Group is the management company of Academies of Math and Science, a network of 10 top-rated non-profit Arizona and Arkansas charter schools (in 2023 the #1 highest performing low-income network in Arizona) serving nearly 10,000 students. We also provide select management services to public schools around the nation that are making a difference in communities but struggling at replicating or effective management.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Our existing finance and accounting team is strong. Our ideal leader is a great manager of people, is strong in modeling/leading modeling of finance formulas of different states for continued expansion, is able to serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO in acquiring other public schools for takeover and restart, is able to compare various financing options for strategic growth and lead financing, has a focus on fiscal stability, is people-focused and has an interest in serving both Academies of Math and Science schools and partner schools in which we provide select management services (including financial).
CFO JOB DESCRIPTION
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a strategic advisor and thought partner to the CEO and Network Executive Team on sustainability of growth of new management contracts, acquisitions, and new states
- Oversee and lead presentation of financials
- As needed, engage with stakeholders, board members, and funders
- Lead and manage the organization’s finance and accounting teams
- Oversee training and support for regional, network, and school-based staff in financial operations.
- The ideal candidate will be able to: analyze funding models of states for expansion, lead the financial side of the acquisition of other charter school management companies and contracts for turnarounds/takeovers, represent AMS Impact with financial management clients and lead the performance of that business
- Strong network of contacts in the charter school and public-school space preferred
Finance and Budget
- Oversee budgets of $120 M+
- Lead long-term financial planning, forecasting, and economic modeling including yearly budgets consistent with long-term goals
- Assess the financial implications of potential strategic and growth alternatives
- Oversee sound financial reporting of budgeted and actual financial performance on a quarterly basis to ensure financial stability
- Establish and maintain fiscal stewardship and oversee internal controls
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards
- Drive financial security and sustainability for Academies of Math and Science and other partner schools
- Implement efficient processes and systems for financial operations
Ideal Experience
- Non-profit accounting
- Experience with financial debt deals (municipal bond, CDFI, developer), leading facilities development, and financing
- Understanding of federal grants and regulations
- Workday, or similar ERP software, experience
- Experience with 401k plans
- Oversight of at least $100m P&L and success leading a team in a rapid-growing organization
- Minimum of 3 years' experience as CFO in non-profit or for-profit entity (ideally both)
- Must be able to work well in a matrix-organization environment working closely with other executives to ensure success
- Financial expertise in multi-revenue stream and multi-site environments
- Strong understanding of accounting and payroll functions
- Comprehension of State and Federal regulatory requirements
- Experience in overseeing complex budgets and financials
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
