The Highlights:
Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Collections and Discovery Services, the Head of Digital Services leads a team of librarians and professional staff who administer and maintain library digital and physical technologies. The Head of Digital Services will work to align digital services and technology with the needs of library users and staff through their leadership, project management, and assessment and planning. The Head of Digital Services will work in a highly-supportive and collegial culture that encourages active participation in meaningful and valuable skills training and professional development. This includes workshops, committee memberships, and engagement in programs that support the Library’s mission and its inclusion, diversity, equity, and access goals, while building connections and partnerships across DePaul’s wider academic and user community.
What You’ll Do:
Leadership
- Provide oversight and leadership of the Digital Services department.
- Support and empower digital services staff.
- Establish and review digital services policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with DePaul University’s Information Systems division, Digital Experience & Analysis, and other partners on campus to support the information and technology needs of library staff and library patrons.
- Collaborate with Associate University Librarians on matters of budgeting, planning and decision-making related to digital services and online-based systems.
Project Management
- Oversee digital services projects, such as systems migrations, implementing new services, and updating technical infrastructure.
- Coordinate with external vendors and internal project partners.
- Communicate project status, budget, and timeline to stakeholders.
- Support the work of the Digital Services team and foster efficient and effective workflows.
Assessment and Planning
- Assess the effectiveness of current technical infrastructure, processes, and procedures for both library patrons and staff.
- Ensure DePaul’s use of technology and digital resources reflects current best practices and is prepared for future growth and needs of both library patrons and staff.
- Work with staff across the library to develop new strategies, platforms, and services to better support library staff and user experience.
Professional Development
- Maintain an awareness of best practices in academic librarianship through engaging with scholarly and professional literature, participation in relevant conferences, workshops, and professional development programs, and apply lessons learned to current needs in the Library.
- Participate and represent the Library in university, state, regional, or national professional service activities.
What You’ll Need:
Required:
- Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program.
- 6 years of academic library experience, of which at least 3 years must include digital services functions, such as managing library systems and technologies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of integrated library systems and/or library discovery systems.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise and direct the work of others, with evidence of increasing levels of responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and effectively interact with people across cultural identities and foster an inclusive, equitable, and welcoming environment.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Alma/Primo, Open Athens, and SpringShare.
- Experience overseeing resource sharing in a consortial environment such as CARLI’s I-Share.
- Experience in change management.
- Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent planning, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collect, organize, and interpret relevant statistical information and data.
- Ability to work in a collegial environment in order to provide excellent library services.
- Evening and weekend hours and travel among DePaul campuses may be required.
