Vice President, Strategy
As the Vice President, Strategy, you will spearhead the company's strategic planning process with an agile, proactive, and customer-centric approach. Collaborating closely with operations, commercial, and functional leaders, you will continuously monitor and update strategic priorities based on market and competitive intelligence, customer expectations, and technical and service innovations. Reporting directly to the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer (CSTO), you will be part of a high-performing team driving a multi-year transformation program focused on operational and commercial excellence, organizational redesign, post-merger integration, and digital transformation.
In partnership with the Chief Commercial Officer and their teams, you will define the company's go-to-market strategy, refine offers and value propositions, and develop innovative new business models. To help accelerate growth in line with the company's Full Potential Plan (FPP), you will define and track market share targets by industry vertical, geography, and customer segment and work with the sales teams to align resources against these growth targets.
Heritage Environmental Services aims to rapidly expand by disrupting the environmental industry with innovative solutions and new ways of serving our customers. As the Vice President, Strategy, you will play a pivotal role in this journey.
Success in this transversal role requires a strong ability to lead by influence, build trust-based relationships, and collaborate effectively with leaders and teams across the company.
Essential Functions & Requirements:
- Establishes and leads strategic planning process to ensure the company's Full Potential Plan (FPP) remains focused on key priorities
- Ensures alignment to the company vision and strategy by collaborating closely with Finance on integrated business planning and annual budget development
- Works with Transformation Office to keep initiatives aligned with strategic priorities
- Develops and disseminates market and competitive intelligence and translates insights into actionable strategic opportunities and threats
- Supports the leadership team and Board of Directors by preparing relevant content for discussions and informed decision-making, considering market changes and external factors
- Collaborates with the Chief Commercial Officer, Marketing, and Sales teams to develop high-level go-to-market strategies, including market and customer segmentation, offer and service level development, and value proposition design
- Defines and tracks market share targets by industry vertical, geography, and customer segment and ensures resources are aligned with targets
- Utilizes competitive and market intelligence to inform ongoing commercial strategy adjustments and identify new growth opportunities
- Partners with Innovation and Commercial teams to drive business model innovation, aligned with FPP objectives
- Engages with CSTO, Strategic Leadership Team (SLT), and Transformation Office on resource needs, roadblocks, risks, and successes related to delivering strategic priorities
- Works with the M&A team to maintain an actionable pipeline of target M&A opportunities, build business cases, and provide strategic perspectives including potential risks or obstacles
- Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Success:
- Market Intelligence: Deliver monthly market and competitive analysis and insights to company leadership
- Strategic Planning: Conduct annual strategic reviews and keep the FPP current and actionable
- Market-/Customer-Centricity: Ensure market insights and customer needs are reflected in the annual budget presentation (with Finance) and in SLT and Board materials (with Chief of Staff)
- Market share growth: Define annual growth targets for prioritized industry verticals, geographies, and customer segments and track sales performance against those targets
- Go-to-Market/Business Model Innovation: Gather stakeholder feedback from the marketing and sales team on the quality and actionability of strategic direction, measured by regular survey
- M&A: Conduct quarterly pipeline reviews with the M&A team; success measured by opportunities advancing through the funnel and new opportunities entering the pipeline
Education:
- Bachelor's degree (required)
- MBA (preferred)
Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in a B2B strategy function or as a consultant advising B2B companies on market and business strategy (required)
- Proven track record of delivering actionable insights to drive rapid business growth (required)
- Demonstrated experience working on high-performing, agile teams in a fast-paced environment (required)
- Experience in strategic marketing, offer development, value proposition, and business model design (required)
- Experience supporting M&A strategy development and pipeline management (preferred)
- Experience in environmental industry or in industrial production and process industries (preferred)
