Job Description
Primary responsibilities include:
- Proposal and budget development
- University and sponsor policy and guideline interpretation for faculty members and their lab personnel
- Forecasting expenses and providing regular as well as ad hoc financial reports to Department and faculty
- Reconciling faculty and lab research needs with overall financial picture and making recommendations regarding spending rates
- Monitoring accounts to ensure compliance with federal, University and/or sponsor regulations
Other duties include, but are not limited to:
- Acting as effort report coordinator
- Approving payments over certain dollar thresholds
- Training lab managers and other lab personnel on sponsored research policies and procedures
- Assisting in implementing policies at the department level and recommending process improvements
- Helping to resolve issues related to research funding and related to migrating and/or transferring labs
Hard Skills
- Bachelor's Degree
- 1-3 years directly related work experience in an academic environment
- Knowledge of NIH/NSF grant policies
- Understanding of Uniform Guidance
- Experience with federal and non-federal sponsors
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
Soft Skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple assignments
- High degree of judgment for sound decision-making
- Handling sensitive information
- Effective communication with faculty
- Commitment to customer service
- Willingness to take on additional tasks
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
Job Type
This is a permanent position.
Work Site
This is a hybrid position requiring some days on-site in Cambridge, Massachusetts and some days remote. (First 90 days are fully onsite)
