About the role:
The Senior Director, Global Health Economics and Market Access (HEMA) in the corporate market access team develops and directs the strategy and execution across all BSC businesses to optimize reimbursement with government and commercial payers to accelerate market access and BSC's reputation as a global leader in health care reimbursement. The Senior Director will advance key BSC reimbursement objectives with government, trade, health technology assessments (HTAs), and other global and local reimbursement stakeholder groups on behalf of Boston Scientific. This role requires a strong understanding of the global reimbursement landscape, leadership experience and proven success in initiatives that drive market access, and exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and influence across teams and global markets. The Senior Director works in partnership with our corporate, business, and regional HEMA partners and teams and leads a team of four members.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with global government payers to ensure access and favorable coverage and payment for all Boston Scientific products and procedures.
- Predict negative government policies that could reduce coverage, payment, and volume and/or increase price pressures and develop strategies to avoid and/or address.
- Ensure BSC voice/perspective influences priorities and policy positions in key trade and external health policy organizations.
- Manage a team of analysts, managers, and directors who are responsible for developing and executing global reimbursement strategies in partnership with cross-functional business partners including divisional and regional HEMA, Government Affairs, trade associations, and key opinion leaders.
- Identify real-world data (RWD) opportunities to support favorable coverage and reimbursement in coordination with the Corporate Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) and business and regional HEMA teams.
- Monitor policy developments that impact the reimbursement of BSC products and communicate to HEMA team and senior leaders as appropriate, prioritize work for the corporate HEMA policy function, and ensure internal alignment on key policy and reimbursement priorities and risks and execute action plans to address.
- Build HEMA community of practice by sharing best practices and educating HEMA and commercial teams on global reimbursement changes and opportunities relevant to the business.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 12 years working health care experience, including direct experience creating and executing global reimbursement strategies for medical devices.
- Proven leadership and people management of direct reports in the reimbursement/market access field, with a strong ability to develop and inspire others.
- Detail-oriented and organized with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and convey technical information, including complex policy and reimbursement information in business relevant language to diverse audiences.
- Expertise and experience evaluating and influencing government payer policy, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
- Strong knowledge of Medicare coverage and payment systems and understanding of Agency structure and decision-making processes.
- Proven success developing pricing and market access strategies globally.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence with cross-functional teams, payers, trade associations, and/or similar membership organizations and to make effective decisions independently and to work in a fast-paced matrix environment with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 15+ years relevant experience in global coverage, coding, and payment, preferably within medical device, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology.
- An advanced degree such as an MBA, MPH or MHA in health policy, health economics, healthcare administration, health services research, or similar discipline.
- A sense of urgency and a passion or helping patients and their communities.
