The Gastroenterology Hospitalist will be responsible for providing inpatient gastroenterology care, including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This role primarily focuses on managing acute gastrointestinal disorders for hospitalized patients, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring high-quality patient care. The Hospitalist will work closely with the general surgery and internal medicine teams, as well as consult with outpatient gastroenterology providers to ensure continuity of care.
Key Responsibilities:- Inpatient Care: Manage hospitalized patients with gastrointestinal diseases, including liver disorders, GI bleeding, and other acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions.
- Procedures: Perform endoscopic procedures such as upper endoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, and other therapeutic interventions as needed.
- Consultation Services: Provide consultative services to inpatient teams (e.g., internal medicine, ICU, surgery) for patients with gastrointestinal issues.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with other specialists, including surgeons, radiologists, and pathologists, to develop comprehensive care plans.
- Patient Management: Ensure smooth transitions of care from admission through discharge and handoffs to outpatient gastroenterologists.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely patient records in accordance with hospital policy and legal regulations.
- Quality and Safety: Adhere to evidence-based protocols to ensure patient safety and contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the department.
- On-call Coverage: Participate in a rotating call schedule to provide after-hours coverage for emergency gastroenterology needs.
Qualifications:- Education: Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
- Board Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology.
- Licensure: Valid medical license to practice in [State], and ability to obtain hospital privileges.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in gastroenterology (hospital-based experience preferred).

- Proficiency in endoscopic procedures (diagnostic and therapeutic).
