Your Opportunity
The principal brings deep Federal electrical engineering and integrated team delivery experience and relationships in the A/E industry to contribute to the overall strategic and tactical leadership of the Stantec Federal team, helping to grow and lead the existing Federal engineering practice in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. This position will lead strategic projects, be client facing, responsible for business development, contribute to project delivery standards and work processes, provide quality control, workload forecasting, financial performance accountability and collaboration with other disciplines. Principal supports business development including but not limited to establishing new business, maintaining existing accounts, reviewing proposals, client management and participating in projects where technical or client advisement/oversight is needed. The principal contributes to differentiating Stantec from other competing firms, and positions Stantec as innovators in the industry.
Your Key Responsibilities
Business Development/Marketing – approximately 20% of time
- Be a primary contributor to growing Stantec’s Electrical Engineering practice in the Pacific Northwest.
- Interface regularly with additional electrical and mechanical engineering leaders in the U.S. and contribute within the Pacific Northwest integrated design practice.
- Develop strategic and tactical business development and marketing plans for the Federal practice and align with Business Center and regional Buildings group goals and strategies.
- Sustain and grow top line revenue helping to achieve growth objectives in the PNW.
- Develop and maintain industry relationships and visibility with current and prospective clients, sub-consultants, and partner firms.
- Assist with the development of the annual business plan and budget for the business center.
- Develop presentation materials and present to clients and at strategic industry events.
- Represent the firm through published articles, public speaking engagements and attendance at industry events.
- Develop project proposals.
- Assist the marketing department with the development of electrical engineering marketing materials.
People and Practice Management – approximately 20% of time
- Help hire and lead a team consisting of electrical engineers, project managers, designers, and CAD/Revit production staff.
- Identify and forecast staff needs and assignments based on current and projected workload.
- Hold project team members accountable for technical excellence and delivery standards.
- Manage the financial performance, quality control processes, and project delivery for Federal projects.
- Ensure compliance with best practices, including Stantec PM Frameworks Project Involvement.
Project Design and Delivery – approximately 50% of time
- Work with PM's and SMEs on key projects to develop and deliver client drawings, specifications, presentations, reports, and other deliverables.
- Successfully manage projects of significant scope and complexity.
- Apply buildings engineering and project management knowledge while leading cross-functional resources.
- Meet technical, contractual, schedule, budgetary and client service objectives for projects.
- Manage and plan the production resources and workflow to produce the design documentation required for engineering projects.
- Act as a QC reviewer on Electrical Engineering projects.
Technical Leadership – approximately 10% of time
- Serve as a Lead Electrical Engineer and internal technical design expert on assigned projects.
- Lead field investigations and analyze existing conditions to develop comprehensive engineering solutions.
- Perform power system studies including short-circuit analysis and protective device coordination.
- Support project requirements including basis-of design narratives, cost estimates, and technical specifications.
- Collaborate with project managers and supporting design staff as part of a coordinated design team.
- Actively participate in the development of junior level design staff.
- Maintain awareness of operational, technical, or regulatory changes within Electrical Engineering.
- Maintain and update Electrical Engineering specifications and standards.

- Deep technical understanding of buildings systems, including Electrical and Technology Systems.
- Strong knowledge of Federal communities including architects, engineers, and contractors.
- Deep understanding of sustainable design principles within projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience to identify and manage items of risk that may occur on projects.
- Passion to integrate design elements with other disciplines.
- Successful history of collaboration with contractors in various construction delivery processes.
- Travel may be required to meet engagement/client requirements.
Education and Experience
- Bachelors' degree in Electrical Engineering plus 15 years related professional experience.
- Washington Professional Engineering License required.
- Management Professional certification a plus.
- LEED AP Credential a plus.
Typical office work tasks require extensive use of a computer. Occasional field work may include exposure to the elements.

Salary Range(s):
- $143,000 - $214,500 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in WA and DC
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year.
