Managing Director of Employee Relations, Equal Opportunity
This position is accountable for leading, monitoring, directing, and coordinating the Employee Relations and Equal Opportunity areas within Human Resources. The position is also responsible for negotiating and coordinating high profile and high-risk casework involving potential university liability.
What you'll do in this position:
- Direct and manage the functional areas immediately reporting to the position, e.g., Employee Relations, Equal Opportunity, and Training & Development.
- Provide consulting and intervention expertise in employee casework involving high-risk and high-profile cases.
- Review, develop, and draft policies and procedures relative to assigned areas.
- Supervise Ecclesiastical Coordination Manager and coordinate the University Ecclesiastical Coordination program and Background Check program.
- Supervise ER/EO office training of campus personnel.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or a related field.
- 10 years of employment in a business or educational environment working with all levels of management from executives to first-line managers, and serving a variety of stakeholders.
- 3 years of ER/EO casework experience.
- 3 years of supervisory experience.
Preferred
- Master's degree (with a specialty in Human Resources, Communications, etc.)
Skills, abilities, knowledge, licenses, certifications:
- Required: Coaching and counseling experience.
- Required: High degree of confidentiality and sensitivity in dealing with employees, managers, and vice presidents. Strong sensing skills. Proven experience and skills in casework, counseling, problem solving, and negotiation. An understanding of emotional processes and intervention strategies.
- Required: A strong knowledge base in federal and state laws and legal processes with specific expertise in laws and procedures involving employment, employee relations, and equal opportunity. A knowledge of and/or willingness to learn University policy.
- Required: Excellent judgment. Leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills. A strategic big picture mindset. Excellent management and communication skills. The ability to develop options, to think through issues clearly, and to make decisions.
- Required: Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with a sharp focus on project management and customer service.
- Required: Excellent writing and communication skills in training sessions, counseling sessions, negotiations, and preparing written reports and other material.
- Preferred: Workday background.
