Summary/Objective
Develops, manages, and/or executes all estimating activities for one or more of the large, complex and demanding projects. This level of Estimator draws upon extensive experience and exposure to various types of projects and clients.
Essential Functions
- Leads a team of estimators who are qualified to perform capital cost estimating. Provides guidance, direction, and specialized assistance for the resolution of difficult and complex estimating problems. Assists project and/or design manager with preparation of schedules for estimate preparation, review, and delivery.
- Makes staffing assignments as appropriate, supervising activities of those assigned. Counsels subordinates, and takes corrective action as necessary to improve performance.
- Provides training and guidance to assigned personnel in the preparation, revision, and production of cost estimates. Reviews work of subordinate personnel for quality, clarity, and application.
- Prepares material takeoffs on the most complex projects, drawings, and plans. Reviews takeoffs provided by others and checks for mathematical and technical accuracy. Prepares detailed breakdown of components and elements of estimates for systems and subsystems.
- Reviews documents and contract modifications to determine scope of work and scope changes.
- Prepares and summarizes task and subtask estimates, including rate and unit cost determination and performing mathematical calculations by applying standard factors.
- Assigns material, equipment, subsystem, and subcontractor costs and labor costs to the estimate takeoff and quantification. Obtains quotes for materials and services from vendors and suppliers.
- Accumulates, evaluates, and documents historical cost data and construction procedures and methods, and productivity in order to maintain current estimating standards and databases.
- Participates in client review and presentation meetings as required.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has overall supervisory responsibility for all estimating operations.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management (or related field).
- At least 12-15 years of strong operational experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- At least five years in a senior management role.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Ability to perform difficult and complex estimating activities typical to the engineering and construction industry is required.
- Excellent communications skills, a thorough knowledge of company and project procedures and practices, and a working knowledge of typical project controls software are required.
- Must have a clear understanding, and ability to work with, engineering drawings and specifications.
- Proven leadership capability, as well as familiarity with industry practices, is required.
- Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
- Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to corporate mission.
