We are looking for a Director of Data Sourcing to lead the development and maintenance of Sayari’s high-value fast-growing global data assets which power the largest dataset of up-to-date public corporate and trade data. We are looking for a unique blend of strategic thinking, business savvy, technical acumen, and talent development.
You will lead the Data Sourcing team and oversee the entire data acquisition & extraction processes, ensuring that all our products maintain the highest standards of data consistency, integrity, and coverage. You will lead a team of data sourcing and quality specialists who will support you in driving the success of our data acquisition initiatives. You will work closely with product managers and engineers to ensure our data assets support the company’s revenue objectives and strategic goals and are aligned with our data architectures and data modeling requirements.
This role is part of Sayari’s Data Insights Lab, our team of data and investigations experts who ensure that our software platforms are backed by data assets that are comprehensive, relevant, up-to-date, and optimally structured. You will report to the Senior Director of Global Data and will be part of a dynamic and collaborative product organization. You will manage Data Sourcing Managers and Product Analysts. This is a hybrid role and we want candidates who prefer to work flexibly from home and our main office in downtown Washington, DC.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Data Licensing and Partnerships: Secure data licensing and partnership agreements needed to fulfill product and business requirements. You will take the lead in negotiating directly with government registries and third-party data providers, both public and non-public, and will manage relationships with all existing strategic data partners. You will have the freedom to think outside the box and develop creative contract models to meet roadmap goals. Additionally, you will delegate key vendor relationships within your team to ensure seamless data access.
- Ensuring Data Resilience: You will be responsible for ensuring our data integrations are aligned with business needs. This involves empowering your team to proactively identify alternative data sources and develop innovative web scraping strategies. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement, you will enhance our data library’s competitiveness while adapting to the evolving landscape of global data governance and transparency regulations. Your leadership will be crucial in ensuring our data remains reliable and responsive to changing demands.
- Budget Management & Planning: You will play a vital role in ensuring that our financial resources are allocated effectively to support our strategic data acquisition goals. You will manage a 7-figure budget and will be responsible for ensuring the return on investment of Sayari’s data spend. With operational support from our finance team, you will be accountable for implementing initiatives that meet our aggressive growth goals and competitive advantage needs while also contributing to the overall financial health of the company. You will prepare detailed reports and forecasts to provide insights into budgetary performance.
- Contractual Expertise: You will review, redline, and approve all data licensing and purchase agreements before signature. With support from our General Counsel, you will ensure that all of our data follows integrity and governance standards in countries where Sayari operates and sells. Senior leaders at Sayari will lean on you for frequent briefings on data rights, fees, term and termination provisions, compliance clauses, etc.
- Performance Metrics and Analysis: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the success of data sources, data freshness, and data extraction initiatives. You will use data-driven insights to inform iterative improvements and ensure that the Data Sourcing team’s output meets both user needs and business objectives. This includes regular quality checks on all new and existing data sources to ensure our parsers not only maintain fidelity to the original data but also exceed user expectations.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: You will work closely with our engineering leaders to ensure that both teams are working at optimal capacity in our agile sprint cycle. This includes ensuring that we are frequently shipping new data and data features, and devising innovative approaches to make critical quality improvements to existing and new data. You will be responsible for ensuring our partner teams have timely and easy access to the information they need about our data assets.
- Team Leadership: You will mentor and oversee team members, ensuring high performance and supporting their professional growth.
- Maintain Data and Domain Expertise: You will be the in-house expert on public disclosure and global transparency regulations. You will need to keep your knowledge and skills sharp in order to stay effective in this role. You will proactively maintain your product and domain expertise by regularly using our products, engaging with Solutions and customers, following market and regulatory trends (e.g. public disclosure legislation, establishment of ultimate beneficial owner registries), and more.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7-10+ years of professional experience working with global commercial data, trade data, risk data for Sayari priority domains, or other relevant data types
- Experience conducting business deals in international settings, with a proven track record of closing 7-figure deals effectively
- Familiarity with Sayari and/or other investigative and supply chain risk management software
- Extensive experience in leading diverse teams with a proven track record in employee development
- Experience with GitHub, SuperSet, MixPanel, Hex, and BigQuery; general technical fluency and/or interest
- Thrives on new challenges and comfortable wearing many hats; start-up mindset with experience in high-growth/SaaS environments
- Strong writing and presentation skills
- BS or BA degree

- Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements in the trade/corporate investigations and risk management fields

$150,000 - $165,000 a year
The target base salary for this position is $150,000-$165,000 plus a quarterly bonus and equity. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including location, local market variances, candidate experience and expertise, internal peer equity, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
