ABOUT THE ROLE
Responsible for co-managing discretionary investment strategies for Westwood’s wealth division. Responsible for research, construction, and implementation of investment strategies for clients of Westwood Wealth Management, including implementing asset allocation, security selection, and adherence to risk management and compliance guidelines. In-depth knowledge of tax-efficient investment strategies and effective management of capital gains objectives. Provide support to the Private Wealth Advisors with client communication and attend client meetings. Communicate clearly and effectively with Wealth CIO, investments team, and traders. Work with Wealth CIO on asset allocation insights and investment risk analysis and oversight.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Portfolio Manager for discretionary wealth strategies
- Significant experience with portfolio construction and effective management of constraints such as client restrictions, tax sensitivities, cash minimums, etc.
- Work closely with Wealth CIO on determining recommended asset allocation across primary strategies – focusing on ensuring portfolio construction reflects recommended asset allocation, where appropriate.
- Collaborate with Wealth CIO and Risk Management group to monitor, understand, and manage total risk in the portfolio, with a bias to downside protection
- Communicate regularly with other departments within Westwood about the strategies, including Trading, the institutional asset management teams, and the wealth advisors
- Update Wealth Advisors on economic and other relevant news in a manner that is timely, concise, and relatable to end clients.
Research Analyst
- Conduct research and due diligence, focusing on supplemental ideas that are not covered by the institutional team
- Identify buy/sell opportunities using absolute and relative valuation methodologies, including DCF and reward/risk analysis
- Work with institutional teams and provide support for idea screening, stock monitoring and pitching, model updates, and thesis development
- Work within the structure and processes of the institutional teams’ research groups to ensure all research-related work product is of Westwood-quality
- Effectively utilize various tools and available third-party resources to source and vet investment ideas
- Actively communicate investment ideas and process to Wealth CIO with documentation and organizing filings
Other
- Work closely with and support Wealth Advisors to communicate and market our proprietary strategies to clients and prospects
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree and/or MBA preferred
- 10+ years of experience in investment management preferred. Education in lieu of experience considered on a case-by-case basis
WHO YOU ARE
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Bloomberg, and other MS Office and investment management software
- Advanced knowledge of investment and portfolio management theory, accounting, economics, and financial principles, associated investment strategies and instruments, and characteristics of various marketplaces
- Exceptional detail orientation and time management abilities including strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Able to prioritize and organize a diversified workload
- Must be a team player with the ability to develop strong working relationships and partnerships across different departments and with customers
- Proven ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete varying situations where only limited standardization exists
- Interprets variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Able to define issues, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions by interpreting a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form with abstract and concrete variables
- Ability to operate independently with a high level of direct responsibility, while maintaining strong ties to the investment team at the firm and participating actively in the development and analysis of new strategies
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
