The Indirect Tax Director is an integral member of the Corporate Tax department and will be a key partner to the Senior Tax Director for the preparation and execution of key tax processes within the indirect compliance and accounting workstreams; including, global indirect tax filings (e.g. US S&U, VAT, CA GST), U.S. use tax filings and purchase review, and U.S. property tax returns and analysis. A key focus will be working on process improvements leveraging software (e.g Excel, Alteryx, Vertex) to effectively utilize data retrieved from accounting systems.
Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing tax research, exemption certificate management, leading tax controversy, responding to notices and assisting with other tax return filings.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation and management of indirect tax compliance including U.S./Canada sales tax returns and U.S. local property tax filings.
- Strategic partner on global indirect tax initiatives, including VAT process improvements and research.
- Management and resolution on sales and use tax audits, focusing on minimalizing of cash taxes paid.
- Team with local controllers (foreign/domestic) to identify process improvements and cash tax minimization.
- Monitoring tax law/regulations/rulings, etc. for changes that might impact the Corporation’s sales and use tax liability.
- Initiate and assist in the implementation of departmental process improvements utilizing key technologies such as Excel and Alteryx.
- Research state tax issues including nexus determinations, taxability analyses and quantification of potential liabilities.
- Developing entry level associates such as tax interns or tax analysts, including global shared service employees.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with CPA, MST preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience managing a team (direct and indirect).
- 10+ years’ experience in either public accounting or industry accounting, with a focus in indirect tax accounting.
- Strong tax technical and tax research skills.
- Experience with indirect tax software (e.g. Avalara, Vertex) preferred as well as experience with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle) and consolidation systems (e.g. Oracle Hyperion, OneStream).
